I never hid my enthusiasm for the FK8 Honda Civic Type R. As I wrote when we covered its death recently, the FK8 was a car I knew, from the moment I first tested it at its launch in Germany, was going to be a car hero. Something special and happy. And so it turned out. He wiped the floor with everything around, and personally, if he was still in operation today, I would pick him over the Toyota GR Yaris without thinking twice.
I’ve never driven a limited edition FK8, but from what I read about it – and knowing what beautiful foundations it was built on – I can imagine it’s the father of the FK8 range. Type R with the addition of STUVWXY and definitely some Z thrown for kicks and giggles. Honda has produced just 1,020 worldwide and out of that number only 20 have reached the Blighty. They were all yellow and sunlight with glossy black details.
In addition to the set style, Honda indulged in a weight loss program that reduced 47 pounds. 20-inch forged BBS alloys removed 2.5 kg of non-jumping mass per corner, and were loaded with Michelin Cup 2 sticker tires instead of the standard car continents. Elsewhere it removed the cleaning voice from the partition for an additional 14 kg, mimicking the system The ten-pound merger. Five pounds were saved by eliminating the information and entertainment and it was a win-win. By not having an entertainment information system, it instantly made the information and entertainment system better. To renew Nova.
Honda has changed the gearbox but it has been applied to the entire Type R range. It has changed the shape of the aluminum gear button and the quality of the gears – it has become even sweeter. In my opinion, it has become the best manual transmission there is. In addition the steering is sharpened and the adaptive dampers recalibrated the new skill of the limited edition. What has not changed is the strength and torque – but it was fine. The 2.0-liter supercharged K20C1 was already huge, and I do not remember anyone saying that its 320 hp, or the V-TEC Fizz that launched you towards 7,000 rpm, were a disappointment.
The limited edition Type R was only five less than 40,000 pounds and its closest rival was the Renault Megane RS Trophy-R. It used a similar philosophy of the same power and less weight, but went even further, by eliminating the rear seats and using an even stricter ride quality. If you mentioned one with the carbon wheels, you looked at a 70,000 pound bill.
But by all accounts, the Type R Limited Edition was faster on the track, still had with the rear seats and an awkward level of comfort. What, of course, was the amazing thing about FK8: he never seemed to put in too much effort. Just like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, speed comes naturally. Yes, it may seem steep at a price of £ 59,995 plus VAT, but for an example like new of such a low model that is no longer manufactured, a method has to be insanely loaded. Especially when you think of the idea that it will fall as one of the greatest hot hatches of all time.
