Japanese carmaker Honda has revealed the City eHEV hybrid. Bookings for the Honda City eHEV hybrid start today and sales will commence next month after the launch of the hybrid sedan. The Honda City will only be offered in the top-spec ZX variant.
Honda City eHEV Hybrid Specifications
The Honda City eHEV packs a hybrid powertrain setup combining a 1.5-litre petrol engine and two electric motors.
The Honda City hybrid’s 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine produces 97bhp between 5,600 and 6,400rpm and 127Nm of peak torque between 4,500 and 5,000rpm.
Aiding the City eHEV’s petrol engine are a set of two motors. One of these motors acts as an integrated starter generator. The second motor sits on the front axle and produces 108bhp between 3,500 and 8,000rpm and 253Nm of peak torque that is available the instant the accelerator pedal is depressed.
The Honda eHEV’s electric motors recharge their lithium-ion battery pack thanks to brake energy recuperation which eliminates the need for external charging. Owners can tweak the potency of the brake energy recuperation system with the help of the paddle shifters. Honda is offering an 8-year warranty on the lithium-ion battery pack.
The Honda City eHEV’s hybrid powertrain sends power to the front wheels via an electrical continuously variable transmission (e-CVT). The Honda eHEV delivers a mileage of 26.5km/l.
The Honda City eHEV hybrid offers three driving modes – pure electric EV, Hybrid and engine. The driving modes are controlled automatically by the City eHEV’s onboard electronics suite.
