Both models make absolute sense.
Honda has made several announcements regarding upcoming model variations, including the return of the Civic hybrid, and a state of the union regarding, amongst other things, chip supply issues.
Following a strong 2022, the headline for Honda is that the Civic is finally coming back in hybrid form. Not having a hybrid Civic has been a glaring hole in the Honda's lineup and falls in line with the new CR-V and Accord models as Honda realizes hybrid is the foreseeable future for most new car buyers. Honda says Civic hybrid drivetrains will be available for both the sedan and hatchback variations.

Honda already shared its Civic hybrid powertrain details in Europe, confirming it as a dual-motor hybrid setup similar to that used in CR-V and Accord hybrid models and is based around a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder. It will be front-wheel-drive only, like the rest of the Civic lineup, and will be introduced in 2024.
The second big takeaway is also another obvious move with an off-road variation of the Ridgeline truck. Honda released a Trailsport edition of the Passport and new Pilot already, so a Ridgeline Trailsport, due in 2024, makes a lot of sense in the lineup. Honda also says there will be other “rugged capability and design” enhancements in as a model-year update for Passport and Ridgeline models.

There's good news for Honda regarding supply chain issues, and reports that it enters “2023 with roughly twice the amount of on-hand inventory compared to last year, with a 17 days' supply.”
“Like the rest of the industry, we're not completely out of the woods with supply issues yet, but we're optimistic the Honda and Acura brands will achieve higher sales volumes this year,” said Vice President of Sales Mamadou Diallo, “With our new models, from our refreshed light truck line-up to the increased hybrid volume and our continued commitment to fun-to-drive cars, our brands are well positioned for 2023.”
Honda further aims to increase “core model” hybrid sales, specifically increasing sales volume to 50% of the sales mix for CR-V and Accord hybrids as part of its greater electrification strategy. This year will mark the beginning of Prologue pre-sales, the automaker's first EV SUV. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in early 2024.
