Honda BR-V Launched In Malaysia

Honda Malaysia has officially launched its 7-seater crossover, the Honda BR-V; the acronym stands for “Bold Runabout Vehicle”. The BR-V is developed by Thailand-based Honda R&D Asia Pacific Co., Ltd. (HRAP) for the ASEAN market and is the first HRAP model to be introduced in Malaysia.

The Honda BR-V is available locally in 2 variants, the E and V, catering to different requirements. The E variant is priced at RM 85,800 while the V is priced at RM 92,800; prices are on-the-road with insurance.

At the launch, Mr. Noriaki Abe, Chief Operating Officer, Regional Operations (Asia and Oceania) of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. and President and CEO, Asian Honda Motor Co., Ltd. said, “The All-New BR-V we launched today was developed exclusively for the ASEAN region, and especially for customers who need bigger space. We foresee that the demand for SUV and utility vehicles would grow, reflecting the needs of customers in this region. We believe the All-New BR-V will satisfy customers’ needs for vehicles that can fit 7 people comfortably, and also offer brisk driving on various road conditions here in Malaysia.”

The Honda BR-V runs on a 1.5L i-VTEC engine paired with Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) gearbox, developed under Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology for improved fuel economy and better driving performance. Engine output is rated at 120 PS and 145 Nm. The CVT has been improved for quicker acceleration. Measuring 4,456 mm long, 1,735 mm wide and 1,666 mm high, the compact crossover body is complemented by the bold solid wing front face design for a sleek look. It rides on 16” Dual Tone Alloy Wheels and widened track for added stability. It also has a high ground clearance of 201 mm. Rounding out the exterior are roof rails, daytime running lights (DRLs) and an integrated rear spoiler.

In terms of safety features, it’s the same for both variants. They get dual front airbags, ISOFIX points, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Hill Start Assist (HSA) and reverse sensors. However, only the high V variant gets a reverse camera. The BR-V is rated 5 stars in the ASEAN NCAP for adult occupant protection and 4 stars for child occupant protection.

Inside, 2nd row occupants enjoy class-leading head and knee clearance as well as leg room. The 2nd row seats slide forward and backwards and have a convenient one-touch tilt and tumble with 60:40 split. Rear occupants also get a roof-mounted rear air blower for cooling. The 3rd row seats split 50:50 and when occupied, puts the trunk space at 223 litres, which increases to 539 litres when the 3rd row seats are folded. Occupants also enjoy the space of 11 cup holders.

The top-of-the-range V variant comes with a 6.1” infotainment touchscreen with reverse camera view and HDMI connection; the E variant makes do with a standard audio unit without HDMI connectivity. Both types of audio systems come with Bluetooth, USB, Aux connection as well as hands-free telephone function.

The V variant also includes climate control, push button start and smart entry, leather trim, leather steering wheel with audio controls, seats with mixed synthetic and real leather and electric tailgate lock.

The Honda BR-V is available in five colours – Dark Ruby Red Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic, Taffeta White and a new colour, Golden Brown Metallic.

There is also a choice of three accessories packages – the Utility Package (RM 1,280) includes Door Visor, Cargo Tray, Trunk Organisers, Sun Shade and Door Protector Film. The Urban Package (RM 2,945) includes Tailgate Spoiler, Running Board and Side Step Garnish and the Modulo Package (RM 3,750) comes with front and rear Lower Garnish as well as side under and Tailgate Spoilers.

Further, the BR-V is covered by a 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage. Service interval has been extended to 10,000 km (done at any of its 88 Honda dealers nationwide).
