Hero MotoCorp has spiced up the already spicy 160cc motorcycle segment in India with the launch of the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V motorcycle in the country. This makes the new Hero Xtreme 160R 4V a direct rival to the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V.
With a 4-valve engine at the heart of both motorcycles, it will be a crime not to compare both these motorcycles. As such, here’s a quick comparison between the Hero Xtreme 160R and the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V.
Design
The design of a motorcycle is a very subjective matter. However, the newer Hero Xtreme 160R 4V motorcycle looks a lot younger and more sophisticated than the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, especially with its USD forks and beefier-looking fuel tank.
Powertrain
The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V motorcycle uses a 159.7cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine. This engine produces 17.31bhp at 9,250rpm and 14.73Nm of peak torque at 7,500rpm. Furthermore, power is sent to the rear wheels via a 5-speed gearbox.
In comparison, the newly launched Hero Xtreme 160R 4V motorcycle uses a bigger 163.2cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine. This engine produces 16.63bhp at 8,500rpm and 14.6Nm of peak torque at 6,500rpm. Like the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V also uses a 5-speed gearbox.
Hardware
The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V motorcycle comes with telescopic suspension at the front and a mono-shock unit at the rear. Braking duty is handled by a 270mm petal disc at the front and a 200mm petal disc at the rear.
The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V uses 37mm USD forks at the front and a 7-step adjustable mono-shock. Braking duty is handled by a bigger 276mm petal disc at the front and a 220mm petal disc at the rear.
Dimension
The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V measures 2,035mm long, 790mm wide, 1,050mm wide and sports a wheelbase of 1,357mm. Moreover, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V motorcycle weighs 146 kilogrammes.
The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V measures 2,029mm long, 793mm wide, 1,052mm wide and sports a wheelbase of 1,333mm. Also, the Hero Xtreme 160R motorcycle weighs 2 kilogrammes less than the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V motorcycle at just 144 kilogrammes.
Price
Prices for the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V starts at Rs 1.24 lakh (ex-showroom). In comparison, the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V motorcycle prices start from Rs 1,27 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V cheaper than the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V.
