Hyundai has created a new and innovative Head-Up Display (HUD) that will likely make its way to the brand’s range of vehicles.
We first heard about the technology during the release of the Ioniq 5, but now we’re learning more about Hyundai’s “Augmented Reality Head-Up Display.”
According to Hyundai, this is the world’s first “clusterless HUD,” and features optical glass installed in the dashboard and angled toward the driver, which ensures better vision.
The display is 15 inches — divided into four sections of information, three at the top and one at the bottom — and helps to bring important information to the driver’s eye level. The top section shows speed, rpm, navigation as well as Advanced Driver Assistance System information. The bottom section shows vehicle information such as warning lights, coolant temperature, and range.
The cluster itself is built by Mobis, which is Hyundai’s parts and service division. The division has invested in Envisics, a UK company that specializes in technology pertaining to head-up displays.
Although it was first teased in the Ioniq 5, it’s likely that the vehicle will feature a different system than what was shown here.
Hyundai has also invested in multiple new technologies, including hydrogen-powered trucks and flying taxis.
