Harley-Davidson’s re-entry to the Indian market came with a banger of motorcycle, the Harley Davidson X440. This bike is designed and manufactured in India, by partnering with the Hero MotoCorp.
During the recent launch of the Harley-Davidson X440, both Harley-Davidson and its Indian partner, Hero MotoCorp, had expressed their plans to introduce more motorcycles in the future. They’ve also hinted that few of these upcoming products are likely to be based on the X440 platform.
According to a report by Livemint, it appears that both companies are developing their next major product, which will be based on the same platform as the Harley-Davidson X440. The report also says that Hero MotoCorp has filed a trademark for the name ‘Nightster 440’ in India.
Just like the X440, the upcoming Harley-Davidson Nightster 440 will also be designed, developed, and manufactured in India. When it is launched, it will become the second 440 cc motorcycle launched under the partnership.
This will also help the American motorcycle manufacturer to expand its presence in the sub-500cc segment, where it will compete with other popular brands like Royal Enfield, Honda, Triumph, and Yezdi.
The name, Nightster, is not new to Harley-Davidson, they already have a higher cc model with the same name. The existing Nightster model comes with a larger liquid-cooled 975cc V-twin engine, which is built from the 1,250cc engine used in Harley’s Pan America.
The existing Nightster model belongs to Harley-Davidson’s sport range of motorcycles. Therefore, it is possible that the upcoming Nightster 440 might be a sportier variant of the latest Harley-Davidson X440.
In terms of looks, we can anticipate the Harley-Davidson Nightster 440 will take design inspirations from its larger 975cc counterpart. However, there will be some unique styling elements, including variations in the seating position and possibly some adjustments to the chassis.
When it comes to the engine, there won’t be much differences except for the tuning to increase its power slightly, aiming to provide a more thrilling and engaging experience for the rider, given that it will be a sportier model.
Thoughts On Harley-Davidson Nightster 440
If speculations are true, the Nightster 440 will cement Harley-Davidson’s presence in the Indian market. This will also provide potential customers an option to choose between the sporty and cruiser categories.
This move by Harley-Davidson to introduce the Nightster 440 might be a strategic effort to outshine the upcoming Triumph Scrambler 400. However, the lower cc bikes from these premium brands have been warmly received by people and it is evident from the impressive number of bookings they have amassed already.
