Kia has unveiled their light tactical defence vehicle concept at the 2021 International Defence Exhibition & Conference (IDEX).
The company has been supplying light tactical vehicles to the South Korean military since 2016.
Alongside the truck, they also displayed the bare chassis and powertrain to showcase the scalability of their platform.
Light tactical cargo truck
The new four-seater Light Tactical Cargo Truck concept adopts an imposing look with aerodynamics not a large focus.
It is equipped with a cargo container for transporting troops along with an assortment of items.
The chassis of the vehicle is of a modular design, and allows Kia to offer a standard and long-wheel-base variant – as well as armoured and unarmoured versions.
Uses for this vehicle includes tactical commanding and reconnaissance, weapon instalment, target observation, and multi-purpose support.
The unarmoured, long-wheel base variant features a superstructure that can be tailored to underpin different structures such as a cargo box, a mobile workshop, and communications centre.
It can also carry ten fully-armed soldiers and three tonnes of cargo at a time.
Differentiated by its unique design, the Light Tactical Cargo Truck has been optimized for use through offering superior mobility, durability, and functionality.
Power for this vehicle comes from a Euro 5 diesel engine that generates 168kW of power, with power sent to all four wheels.
An 8-speed automatic transmission handles the drive, while an independent suspension system, limited-slip differential, run-flat tyres, and electromagnetic interference system assures the soldiers can do their jobs.
