The new GMC Hummer EV blends past and future: Its bold presence is reminiscent of the original Hummer while its new Ultium EV platform sets the foundation for the automaker’s electrified future. While the Hummer EV pickup and SUV’s inaugural Edition 1 trim is currently sold out, reservations are open for the dual-motor EV 2 and EV 2X and the three-motor EV 3X. Shoppers wanting to lock in the current prices need to act fast — GMC has announced that all variants will see a substantial price increase starting June 18.
Prices Go Up for New Reservations
According to GMC, the starting price for all of the Hummer EV variants will increase by $6,250 for reservations placed on or after June 18. The automaker attributes the price increase to the elevated parts, technology and logistics costs. There is good news for current reservation holders, however: Anyone with an existing order for the electrified model will still pay the original price.
Rivals like Tesla and Rivian blamed similar supply-chain issues for their own price increases. In March, Rivian raised prices on the R1T electric pickup by $12,000 — nearly 18%. The price hike initially included existing reservations, but after an outcry, Rivian reversed the increase for current reservation holders, and buyers who canceled their order due to the change were able to reinstate it at the original price.
EV 3X Order Updates
In addition to the pricing announcement, GMC also informed shoppers that they will be able to select specific options and packages for the three-motor EV 3X. Selectable options include various paint colors, the Extreme Off-Road Package and a 24-module battery pack that enables the vehicle’s Watts to Freedom mode and unlocks a GMC-estimated 0-60 mph time of 3 seconds.
It’s unclear if reservations for dual-motor models will be customizable in the future.
Trims, Pricing and Release Date

Reservations are currently open for the Hummer EV pickup and SUV’s EV 2, EV 2X, and EV 3X trims. The EV 3X is expected to arrive by fall 2022; the EV 2X will follow in spring 2023; and the EV 2 is expected by spring 2024. Shoppers can make a reservation on the automaker’s website with a $100 deposit at the starting prices below (all prices include a $1,995 destination charge).
