Peugeot’s former head of design, Gilles Vidal, will join Renault’s design team in November, it has been announced. The news comes just two days after he stepped down from his role at Peugeot.
Vidal has been a part of PSA since 1996, when he joined Citroen, and has been credited for breathing new life in the design direction of Peugeot in recent years, designing cars including the 2008, 3008, 5008 and the new 208.
He will now report directly to Renault Group head of design Laurens van den Acker, who said of the appointment: “We are thrilled to welcome Gilles Vidal into our team. Gilles has an intimate knowledge of creating strong and attractive design-led brands. His widely recognised experience, his sense of innovation and passion for design will be great assets for Groupe Renault.”
Vidal will be replaced by Matthias Hossann, currently head of concept vehicles at Peugeot, who designed the 2018 e-Legend Concept.
