The price of entry for a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will go up in Australia with the launch of the updated 2023 model year trucks.
Set to touch down in Australia quarter two, 2022, the Silverado adopts some new equipment and ushers in a new model grade to the line-up.
Local Chevrolet importer GMSV has confirmed that the Silverado LT Trail Boss will be dropped from the line-up and a new ZR2 flagship grade will be added.
The LT Trail Boss was the range opener, starting from $106,990 before on-road costs.
That means the new entry model is the LTZ Premium, which has copped a price hike as part of the update. It was $113,990, but the model year 2023 Silverado LTZ Premium will be priced from $121,000.
Opting for the rugged top-spec ZR2 ups the price to $124,000.
This pricing puts it in direct competition with the RAM 1500 Laramie which starts from $123,900.
GMSV says the off-road-focused ZR2 gains model-specific features including 33-inch mud-terrain tyres, a unique bumper designed for “off-road strength, durability and clearance”, rear e-lockers and Multimatic DSSV dampers.
It is differentiated from the LTZ Premium by its black chrome grille, ZR2 badging and wheel flares, raised black bonnet insert and 18-inch gloss black wheels, as well as the dark leather-appointed interior that is specific to the ZR2.
Both Silverado grades come standard with the 6.2-litre petrol-powered V8 engine delivering 313kW/624Nm, driving all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission.
LTZ Premium gains tweaked front-end styling with new daytime running lights, and a fresh 20-inch silver wheel design.
The 2023 Silverado gains a redesigned interior that includes a 13.4-inch colour touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Other standard gear in the LTZ Premium includes black leather-appointed interior, a 15-inch head-up display, a camera that gives you a view of the bed, adaptive cruise control and a Technology Pack with a rear camera mirror.
Pre-orders are open now ahead of next year’s delivery but 2022 Silverados are still available for order.
GMSV has sold 565 Silverado 1500s so far this year, a 3.7 per cent dip on the same period in 2021. Meanwhile RAM has found 1680 homes for its 1500, which is 28.6 per cent ahead of January-May last year.
