BYD launched the new Yangwang U8L Premium Edition in China with four captain’s seats, starting at around $215,000. BYD expands Yangwang U8L lineup with 4-seat model The Yangwang U8L went on sale last year as the extended version of the standard flagship plug-in hybrid SUV. After launching the new Premium (Dingzang) Edition this week, BYD’s ultra-luxury sub-brand called it a “top-tier domestic four-seat SUV.” The ultra-luxe model starts at 1.458 million yuan, or about $216,000. The new model measures 5,400 mm in length, 2,049 mm in width, 1,921 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,250 mm. That’s about the size of the Cadillac Escalade and the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600. Advertisement - scroll for more content Powered by four electric motors, a 2-liter engine, and a 56.58 kWh BYD Blade battery, the Yangwang U8L 4-seater has a pure electric CLTC range of 230 km (143 miles) and combined range of 1,205 km (748 miles). It’s also equipped with BYD’s Flash Charging tech, enabling the vehicle’s battery to be charged from 10% to 70% in five minutes. For a full recharge (10% to 97%), it takes just nine minutes. The flagship 4-seat Yangwang U8L is equipped with BYD God’s Eye A driver assist. The ADAS system includes a roof-mounted LiDAR and 40 sets of full-domain, high-precision sensors to provide all-scenario navigation assist. Inside, the flagship SUV features an exclusive gold sans interior with gold accents. Three large displays stretch across the dash: one in front of the driver, one as the center infotainment screen, and another for the passenger. The “exclusive” zero-gravity luxury seats include an electric legrest and an 18-point massage function. For rear passengers, there’s a 21.4″ entertainment screen that drops from the ceiling. Yangwang sells plug-in and pure electric vehicles, including the U7 sedan, U8 SUV, and U9 electric supercar. BYD plans to launch the Yangwang brand in Europe and the UK in 2027 to rival premium brands like Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, and Range Rover.
