Hyundai announced specs and details for the redesigned 2027 Tucson compact SUV.The new model has a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four as the base engine and a 233-hp hybrid as the upgrade powertrain. The new Tucson is larger than before and offers an impressive 42 cubic cargo space.Hyundai's new 2027 Tucson made a splash when we first saw photos of its boxy design, and now we have the full specifications on the redesigned compact SUV. It's larger than before, more luxurious inside, and offers a new off-road trim level called XRT Pro. There's an impressive array of standard and optional features that should make this a competitive entrant in the crowded class of compact crossovers.Longer, wider, taller, and with a longer wheelbase than the old Tucson, the new model's size pays dividends for rear-seat passenger space and cargo room. There's extra legroom in back, and the cargo area now measures an impressive 42 cubic feet. The exterior design incorporates full-width LED lighting strips in front and back, and the headlights and taillights both have unusual treatments. The headlights are lower down than you might expect, with the more prominent LED light bar serving as the daytime running lights. The taillights, meanwhile, are three-dimension units that stick out from the rear end and are meant to look like prisms reflecting light.New Base Engine, Upgraded HybridWhile the previous Tucson used a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four, the new model switches to a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four that serves as the base engine. It offers 184 horsepower, which is 3 horsepower less than before. So we don't expect this version to be much of a performer, especially considering the new Tucson's larger size.HyundaiThe hybrid remains the upgrade choice, supplanting the same turbo 1.6-liter four with two electric motors for a total output of 233 horsepower. Front- and all-wheel drive versions of both powertrains will be available, and Hyundai claims that the front-wheel-drive Tucson Hybrid will get up to 42 mpg combined—a jump of 4 mpg compared with the old AWD-only hybrid model. The hybrid is also now rated to to 3000 pounds. The plug-in hybrid won't continue in the U.S. market, but Hyundai has talked about adding one of its upcoming range-extender powertrains to the Tucson in the future.Interior FeaturesA 12.9-inch central touchscreen display is standard, with a huge 17-inch screen optional. Both run Hyundai's new Pleos Connect infotainment software with an AI assistant that responds to more voice commands from before. Rather than a traditional instrument cluster, there's a slim digital display screen near the windshield that shows a speedometer and other crucial information.HyundaiThankfully, Hyundai has resisted the trend to integrate all controls into the main display screen: below the touchscreen there are still physical volume and tuning knobs and climate-control switches for adjusting the temperature. Hyundai's version of massaging front seats, called Ergo Motion, are newly available, a rare option in this class, and the Limited trim we sat in featured upscale materials and nice touchpoints. The gearshift is mounted on the column, which opens up more space in the center console, and there are dual wireless smartphone charging pads available.XRT Pro Off-Roader and Other Trim LevelsThe previous Tucson offered a ruggedly styled XRT version, but the new model has an XRT Pro trim level that goes a few steps further with extra ground clearance and all-terrain tires. It also has a distinct front end, carbon-fiber trim, and skid plates for underbody protection. The expected SE, SEL, and Limited trims will also be part of the lineup, though we don't yet have pricing information.HyundaiMore details will be coming soon, as Hyundai says the 2027 Tucson will arrive in U.S. dealerships early next year.Gift Guide: Best Ride-On Electric Cars for KidsFuture Cars Worth Waiting For: 2025–2029
