Fledgling electric vehicle brand Polestar says if you don’t like the new Polestar 2, you can simply return it for a refund.
The Tesla rival has launched a full money-back guarantee for private buyers for its Polestar 2 electric sedan in Australia.
If an owner is not fully satisfied with their Polestar, they can return it within seven days of delivery, providing it hasn’t been driven for more than 500 kilometres.
The announcement coincides with the official start of sales for Polestar in Australia, with deliveries set to kick off in March.
Polestar – which falls under China’s Geely group, alongside sister brand Volvo – does not have traditional bricks-and-mortar dealerships, instead relying on online sales and so-called Polestar ‘spaces’ where prospective buyers can experience the car.
The brand is yet to open a space in Australia but it recently held a test-drive roadshow in Sydney, Melbourne, the Gold Coast and Brisbane, which resulted in 300 orders in just 48 hours.
There are currently 180 vehicles on the ground in Australia awaiting delivery to customers.
The Polestar 2 is available in three grades, kicking off from $59,900 before on-road costs for the single-motor Standard Range. The mid-grade single-motor Long Range is $64,900 and the flagship dual-motor Long Range is $69,900.
Polestar Australia managing director Samantha Johnson said the refund policy will make it easier for people to transition to EVs.
“A new vehicle is often the second-largest purchase a person will make after a home, so it’s important to not only recognise that, but to also stand behind our vehicles – and our customers – with a guarantee that provides the peace-of-mind and confidence in the direct-to-consumer model,” she said.
“We see that Australians are increasingly ready to make the switch to electric vehicles, and this guarantee is designed to make that transition as easy as possible for Polestar 2 customers.”
The Polestar 2 is the brand’s first model, but the next cab off the rank is expected to be the Polestar 3 SUV, followed by a four-door coupe-style liftback called the Polestar 5.
