Dutch supercar maker Donkervoort has released first details of its all-new F22 supercar
Donkervoort, maker of the eccentric D8 GTO is now applying the same lightweight formula to its first all-new model in a generation, the F22. Set to launch on December 10 as the world’s ‘lightest road-legal supercar’, the Dutch marque claims it will boast more performance than its predecessor thanks in part to the use of cutting edge weight saving materials.
Despite a larger footprint than the D8 GTO, Donkervoort claims the F22 will tip the scales at ‘considerably less than’ 800kg, getting close to the circa-700kg figure of its predecessor. Having been in development for five years, the Dutch firm has managed to increase chassis rigidity by two times, while integrating new safety systems and reducing both emissions and fuel consumption. The model will also feature a new manual gearbox, now with rev matching and flat-shifting functions.

We'll have to wait until December 10 for full details, but Donkervoort says the F22 has a higher top speed than the D8 GTO and can achieve in excess of 2G lateral acceleration. For reference, the D8 utilised Audi's 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder for a 429bhp and 420lb ft output in its final form, enough for a blistering 2.6sec 0-62mph time and a 167mph top speed.
Though the F22 will adopt a new design, it will retain a similar layout to previous cars with open front wheels and fixed wings at the rear that now cover an all-new active suspension system. A sleeker, more modern aesthetic appears to be the direction though, with an ‘innovative’ new roof design also set to feature.
Managing Director Denis Donkervoort, said: ‘The F22 is first and foremost a road car, and we have prioritised driver engagement, progressive handling and driving fun over an absolute obsession with lap times – and will still be capable of very fast lap times. The reason for all of this, and its low emissions and sustainability, is so simple. It’s weight.’
Pricing is yet to be announced, but with the final iterations of the D8 GTO costing from around £170,000, the new model won’t likely come cheap. The Donkervoort F22 will be revealed on December 10.
