Originally unveiled in 2019 with an attractive exterior design language that underpins the TNGA platform family, Toyota has decided to expand on the Corolla hatch range with the introduction of a hybrid model.
Out with the old 1,2-litre turbocharged petrol motor and in with the 1,8-litre petrol-electric hybrid powertrain or 2,0-litre Dynamic Force petrol powerplant. This signals the first time the venerable hatchback model will be offered with a hybrid powertrain.

The ‘new gen’ 1,8-litre hybrid engine offers a 14% increase in Total System Output – up from 90 to 103 kW or an increase of 13 kW. The alternative 2,0-litre has also been reworked and has been given an extra 1kW and 3 N.m for peak outputs of 126 kW and 203 N.m. In terms of fuel economy, the Corolla hatch hybrid achieves a frugal 3,5 L/100km while its standard counterpart achieves 6,0 L/100km and CO2 emissions register at 81 and 137 g/km, respectively. Coupling the powertrain to the wheels is exclusively Toyota’s self-shifting CVT transmission which is claimed to help maximise efficiency.
Minor exterior changes have been imparted to differentiate different derivatives in the lineup while buyers can opt to have their Corolla hatch hybrid finished in a variety of colours including a bi-tone configuration for Xr models. Shades include Glacier White, Satin Silver, Graphite Grey and Platinum White Pearl are joined by the newly added Vibrant Red, Luminous Orange, Attitude Black and Dark Blue Metallics.

Remaining inside, the Xs models feature a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system while Xr models boast a new generation system with Voice Recognition, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and built-in navigation functionality.
