Consumer Reports recently released a report on the best cars for tall drivers, and unsurprisingly, its methodology was quite simple. Consumer Reports has quite a few test drivers on hand to test vehicles, and those test drivers vary in height. Consumer Reports then had the tall test drivers test out the cars, but that’s not the only thing the tall test drivers did.
The tall test drivers also looked at the various features available in the car. As Consumer Reports wrote, tall drivers don’t necessarily need a big car to have a comfortable car to drive in, so long as it has some valuable features. That being said, size does matter, so Consumer Reports also looked at how comfortable the car’s seating position was for tall drivers.
Why the 2022 Subaru Legacy is the best midsize car for tall drivers
In the midsize sedan category, the Subaru Legacy was the best car for tall drivers, according to Consumer Reports. There were multiple reasons for this, but they were all related to comfort. Off the bat, the Legacy has big door openings, so it’s easy for taller or larger folks to enter the car. Similarly, the Subaru’s driving position is nice and comfortable for taller drivers, and even tall passengers should be fine in the rear seats.
On top of that, the Legacy’s other comfort qualities make it an even better choice. It received very high scores in terms of comfort and convenience, as Consumer Reports gave it 4 out of 5 stars in every category except one. The one exception was the Legacy’s ride quality, as it scored even better with a 5 out of 5 score instead.
Not only is the Subaru Legacy a comfortable car for tall drivers, but it’s just a great car overall. Consumer Reports gave it an overall score of 87 out of 100, making it the second-best car in its segment. It received an 89 out of 100 on its road test, a 4 out of 5 for its predicted reliability rating, and a 3 out of 5 for its predicted owner satisfaction rating. Its weak standard engine, which only gets 182 horsepower, is a minor drawback, but it’s a great car in every other category.
The 2022 Honda Accord is good for tall drivers too
While Consumer Reports recommended the Subaru Legacy over other midsize sedans for tall drivers, the Honda Accord was the runner-up recommendation. Thanks to its overall score of 88 out of 100, the Accord is the best sedan in the segment, narrowly beating out the Legacy. Like the Subaru, the Honda Accord received a road test score of 89 out of 100 and a 4 out of 5 for its predicted reliability rating.
However, the one area where the Accord got a better score than the Legacy was in its predicted owner satisfaction rating, as it received a 4 out of 5 there. Additionally, when it comes to tall drivers, the Accord also scores well, as it received good comfort ratings. Like the Legacy, the door openings are nice and big, making for easy entry. However, its headroom is only “decent,” and taller passengers might struggle in the rear seats.
