PETALING JAYA: A car workshop in Taman Kinrara Section 2, Puchong in Selangor, was slapped with a compound and a warning by Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) for two offences.
“The RM250 compound was issued by the Licensing Department for causing public obstruction, as the workshop had vehicles blocking parking bays and roads,” said Zone 11 MBSJ councillor Pravin Murali.
“The warning was issued by the Health Department for mosquito larvae found at the premises.
“If the larvae is identified as that of Aedes mosquitoes, health officers will return to issue a summons.”
He said MBSJ’s Licensing Department had given the car workshop owner until today to remove abandoned cars and other obstructions around its premises, or face having its business licence revoked.
Pravin was speaking to the media after a joint operation involving several MBSJ departments was conducted to address the issue of abandoned cars and others matters linked to the car workshop.
Besides the licensing and health departments, the operation also involved the enforcement and environmental management departments.
“Council workers also cleaned the back lane, removed old tyres, rusty oil drums and other solid waste that could become mosquito-breeding grounds,” said Pravin.
“MBSJ towed several long-abandoned vehicles too.
“The car workshop operator has been given three warnings from my office since February to remove the abandoned vehicles but they were ignored.
“MBSJ’s enforcement officers had previously placed stickers on the vehicles to remind their owners to remove them.
“If the vehicles aren’t removed within a week, enforcement officers have the right to tow them to MBSJ’s depot, where they will be disposed off if unclaimed after one month,” he added.
StarMetro had reported on May 29 that roads around Jalan TK2/1A up to Jalan TK2/1E, and parts of the main road – Jalan Taman Kinrara – had become a dumping ground for abandoned cars.
Residents complained that the abandoned cars took up limited parking spots.
Mourners who wanted to go to a funeral parlour near the car workshop also struggled to find parking.
Residents said that some of the vehicles had been there for years.
