Nio, the Chinese car manufacturer behind the rapid EP9 supercar, has revealed the all-new ET5 Touring. This handsomely-styled wagon is based on the ET5 sedan launched two years ago.
The ET5 Touring is powered by dual motors. The front induction motor produces 201 horsepower, while the rear permanent magnet motor makes a healthy 282 hp. The total output is 483 hp, giving the ET5 Touring the motivation to hit 62 mph in a scorching four seconds. With four-piston brake calipers, the svelte wagon can also stop on a dime. Nio claims it needs just 111.2 feet to decelerate from 62-0 mph.
With simple and uncluttered lines, the ET5 Touring is a good-looking vehicle. There are hints of the Taycan Sport Turismo in the rear fascia, while the light cluster resembles the one seen on the Lucid Air. Overall, it looks suitably upmarket.
The wagon body style makes the ET5 Touring more practical than its sedan counterpart. There's an additional 0.67 inches of headroom at the rear, while the trunk offers 15.9 cubic feet of packing space, with an extra 1.5 cubes hidden beneath the floor.
Should you require even more cargo room, the 40:20:40 rear seat can be folded flat, unveiling a total of 45.9 ft3 of space? A flat load floor and powered tailgate make it an even more practical proposition. Despite this, Nio promises the ET5 Touring is a joy to pilot.
With a perfect 50:50 weight distribution and a low center of gravity, the electric wagon should be some fun in the bends. Nio says the vehicle has been thoroughly tested in Europe and claims it provides a fine combination of crisp handling and comfort.
Two battery sizes are available. The 75-kilowatt-hour option provides up to 270 miles of range, while the larger 100 kWh battery promises an impressive 348 miles from a single charge. It's worth noting, however, that these estimates have been calculated on the WLTP cycle, so we can expect lower figures if the ET5 Touring arrives in America.
But what else can buyers expect? Plenty of tech and luxury, that's for sure. Step inside the cabin, and you'll find a pair of screens: a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch center console display with Nomi, the brand's AI virtual assistant. A 23-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system and panoramic sunroof also form part of the package.
Optionally, customers can choose from 14-way power-adjustable front seats with ventilation and massage functionality. Nio says the cabin of the ET5 Touring is trimmed in Clean+ Composite upholstery, which is offered in four color themes.
The exterior can be customized in a number of ways. The ET5 Touring can be painted in 10 “sky-inspired” colors (paired with black roof rails), while four-wheel designs (available in 19 and 20 inches) can be specified. Other personalized touches include painted brake calipers, a tow bar, Comfort Package, and more.
As you would expect from a modern EV, the ET5 Touring features cutting-edge technology. All variants make use of Nio's Adam Super Computing, which is made up of four Nvidia Drive Orin X chips and 1,016 TOPS of computing power. On the safety front, there's a total of 23 driver assistance features and seven airbags. Over-the-air updates mean Nio can introduce upgrades over the lifetime of the car.
Currently, the ET5 Touring will be offered in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. Pricing is yet to be announced, but we expect this slick wagon to be priced between the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. Now if only Tesla could release a rival to this Nio long-roof.
