Update: ‘Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss price & release date’ section revised.
The Chevrolet Silverado EV range includes a sporty ‘RST’ variant, the Work Truck variant, and will soon entail the tough ‘Trail Boss’ variant. The Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss, that promises to be a true electric off-roader, particularly is getting everyone very excited. It’s important to note that GM has released limited information on this variant, and this page will be updated as more details emerge.
Design & Features
The Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss will target customers who wish to drive boldly in challenging conditions and thus need greater off-roading capabilities. It features a black front panel (instead of a body-colored front panel, so that scratches and chips on the trail are handled well) with a Trail Boss badge, red tow hooks, a non-backlit, black Chevrolet logo, off-road tires, eight-double-spoke black alloy wheels, and gloss black mirrors.

It’s clearly evident in the multimedia GM has released so far that the Trail Boss variant of the Chevrolet Silverado EV has a noticeably higher ground clearance than the Work Truck and RST variants. For customers who regularly drive on demanding terrains, be it for work, sporting events or leisure, the Trail Boss variant would be the most suitable choice in the Silverado EV range. It may feature an adaptive air suspension that allows raising or lowering the pickup up to two inches, and an axle that offers locking differential effect.
Like the GMC Hummer EV Pickup, the Chevrolet Silverado EV will be available with a 24-module Ultium battery pack optionally. While GM hasn’t confirmed the availability of this highest-capacity battery pack option in the Trail Boss variant, charging infrastructure is a rarity on the trail, and GM would do well to offer it with a large battery. The company expects select Silverado EV configurations to have a range of more than 400 miles.
As you would expect from Chevrolet, we will offer additional variants and models after initial launch. We’re excited to give you a sneak peak at the future Silverado EV Trail Boss model, which taps into our strong foundation of factory-lifted trucks. So for those customers who want something even more rugged and off-road capable, we have you covered.

Specifications
The battery pack capacity and range, charging parameters and output figures of the Silverado EV Trail Boss can be deduced from what GM is preparing for the regular variants of the electric truck. For the Silverado EV WT and Silverado EV RST, GM has confirmed charging input of up to 350 kW and V2L power offload of up to 10.2 kW. The former’s powertrain will provide 510 hp and 615 lb-ft, while the latter’s powertrain will produce 664 hp and more than 780 lb-ft. We expect a battery pack capacity of between 100-150 kWh.
Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss price & release date
The Chevrolet Silverado EV prices will start at USD 39,900 and go up to more than USD 80,000. The Work Truck variant arrives first, in spring 2023, and then the RST variant, in fall 2023. The Trail Boss variant could go on sale in the first half of 2024, priced from around USD 60,000. During GM’s Q2 earnings conference call on July 26, 2022, Barra revealed that the company has received more than 150,000 Silverado EV reservations.
GM might want to release the Trail Boss trim as soon as possible, since it could be quite popular in the Silverado EV line-up. According to GM Research, 87% of Silverado EV reservation holders will use their electric truck for regular “truck needs” like towing and trailering. The Trail Boss trim is likely to offer the best specifications in these aspects across the line-up. The survey also revealed that 95% of respondents plan to use their Silverado EV as a daily driver. It seems like range anxiety won’t be a problem for most Silverado EV customers.
