Some C8 ‘Vettes have improperly made CV axles.
Chevrolet
- Chevrolet is recalling examples of 2021 and 2022 Corvettes due to possible axle failure.
- The rear-drive axles might not have all of their respective ball bearings, which could result in the loss of drive power.
- The numbers for this recall fall under: NHTSA 22V091000 and General Motors N212351320.
The latest generation of Chevrolet’s Corvette is probably the best ‘Vette to leave the factory, but even the best can have some faults. Chevrolet is recalling 22 Corvettes because of improperly manufactured rear axles.
According to the recall notice, the rear axle shafts could be missing bearings in the assembly. These missing bearings could result in the axle shaft failing, which could result in the loss of drive power.
If you’re looking at your Corvette and are upset, remember this is just, apparently, 22 examples. This recall only affects certain numbers of 2021 and 2022 Chevrolet Corvettes, which means earlier examples should be in the clear.
Statistically speaking, your ‘Vette probably isn’t in the mix, but you can know for certain if you head to the Chevrolet recall portal, or by checking through the NHTSA system, here.
If you are one of the impacted few, Chevrolet says it will inspect and replace the left and/or right axle half shafts for free. Chevrolet didn’t note when these recalls can happen but did say owners of these respective Corvettes will get a letter in the mail on April 4.
It’s safe to assume these replacement half shafts will have all their bearings, and you’ll be able to enjoy your ‘Vette to its full extent.
