It is a tough task, going after BMW. Arguably one of the most formidable automotive manufacturers in history. Not only this, Kia’s latest Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV will also be taking the fight to the authority in electrification; Tesla. That is why their latest mainstream EV sedan has been delayed at the 11th hour for an emergency redesign.

The performance EV will now break cover in the coming months, but to keep us entertained in the meanwhile is a batch of renderings that portray the sedan in a variety of colours and wheel-design concepts. While these are unofficial, they are based on spy shots of camouflage prototypes that have been spotted silently strutting their stuff. This means that the final concept which will soon be revealed to us may look something like this.
The Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV has lost a considerable amount of sleek linework from its conceptual form however it still looks worthy to take on the premium EV sedan segment. Underneath is the E-GMP platform which is highly promising for the Korean automaker since the Ioniq 5 uses the same architecture.
If all turns out as speculated, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 EV will be able to battle it out with the Model 3 Performance and i4 M50. It should manage with some serious electrified firepower since the platform can take as much as 423 kW and 740 N.m.
A full size SUV is expected to complement the portfolio by 2024 as the Ioniq 7. As Hyundai’s Ioniq range expands by the month, South Africa still has no concrete confirmation if we will receive these electrified derivatives of Korean mobility.
