YouTuber Dino’s Vault gives us an idea of what the BS6 CB300R can do when you open the taps
The BS6/Euro-5 Honda CB300R made its global debut at the 2021 India Bike Week. Soon after, the company followed it up with the BS6 CB300R’s official India launch. Now, the bike has started reaching Honda BigWing dealerships and a few people have even taken it for a spin. One such person is YouTuber Dino’s Vault who took the bike out onto the highway and did a top speed run. Here’s how it went.
How It Happened
Today, we’re showing you the top speed of the BS6 Honda CB300R
The video starts off with an introduction and some close-ups of the BS6 Honda CB300R, progressing towards the top speed run, which begins at around the half-point of the video.
As soon as the run begins, the CB300R starts picking up pace rapidly with the first gear maxing out at around 51kmph and the second gear at 79kmph. It’s the third gear where the CB300R breaches past the 100kmph mark.
The bike steadily accelerates to a good 130kmph and starts slowing a little bit post that
The acceleration does become a little slower after the 3rd gear, with the fourth gear of the CB300R redlining at 132kmph. This isn’t a surprise, as the Honda CB300R’s engine is essentially based on the CBR250R’s motor.
Having owned a Honda CBR250R myself, I can safely say the in-gear speeds are quite similar between the two bikes.
As the rider slots the fifth gear, the acceleration drops further but the bike keeps on gaining speed at a steady pace. And finally, as the bike gets into the sixth gear, it reaches its top speed of 150kmph.
However, the rider insists the bike can keep going on and perhaps cross the 150kmph mark if it were for more favourable conditions and with a lighter rider onboard. Also, bear in mind, these are public roads and we wouldn’t recommend anyone goes ahead and does this for real. If you do want to max out or enjoy your bike without any limitations, though, we suggest you head to a race track.
Honda CB300R Engine & Specs
The CB300R gets an updated engine, making 0.7PS and 0.1Nm more. To know all about the in-gear speeds, swipe up!
Coming to the bike, the Honda CB300R, in its BS6 avatar, uses the same 286cc, single-cylinder engine. However, thanks to some engine tweaks, the motor now belts out 31.1PS and 27.5Nm, 0.7PS and 0.1Nm more than before.
The engine comes mated to the same six-speed gearbox, but it’s been enhanced with a slip-and-assist clutch for a lighter clutch pull.
The components remain as is but the forks are now finished in gold
Moving on, the updated bike features the same chassis and suspension setup. The latter comprises a premium Showa USD fork (now finished in gold colour) and a monoshock.
Honda CB300R Design & Features
The BS6 CB300R retains its likeable neo-retro design
The BS6 CB300R boasts the same neo-retro design as before. It gets a smart, round LED headlight upfront, accompanied by muscular tank shrouds. The bike narrows down towards the rear and gets a puny rectangular LED tail lamp to round things off. The overall design is quite likable and minimalistic.
The fuel tank is quite brawny but only holds 9.7-litre fuel
Unlike the design, though, the features are a little disappointing. The basics – all-LED lighting, a digital instrument cluster, ABS, and slipper clutch – are all there but the CB300R isn’t quite stand out, especially when you consider its price. A TFT unit would’ve been a great touch here.
Honda CB300R Price
The bike finally maxes out around 150kmph. But the rider insists it can go faster
Speaking of price, the new CB300R retails at Rs 2.77 lakh (ex-showroom Gurugram), a massive Rs 36,000 more than its older model. This is a big price jump and deteriorates the bike’s value-for-money factor, considering it’s Rs 10,000 more expensive than the more powerful BMW G310R and only Rs 10,000 shy of the class-leading KTM 390 Duke which gets a TFT, quick-shifter, switchable ABS, and makes 13PS more.
What’s even more shocking is the fact that the new CB300R has been heavily localised, which should’ve actually brought down the price instead of the other way around.
