Interbrand has released its 2022 Best Global Brands (BGB) Report, and once again it’s Toyota and Mercedes-Benz alone among automakers in the top ten. But if Tesla continues to gain like it has over the last couple years, it should join – or displace – them next year.
The EV brand burst onto the top-100 chart – a ranking of various brands’ value and reputation among consumers – in 2020, and landed the 40th spot in 2021; it carried on its meteoric climb to arrive in 14th last year. This year, it increased its value a total of 32 per cent, or US$48 million, enough to to bring it up to 12th.
Mercedes-Benz gained 10 per cent in value, holding its eighth-place position and its crown as top-rated luxury automotive brand, a title it’s been holding for for seven years running. Up two spots, Toyota’s 10-per-cent gain managed to sneak it by Coca-Cola and into the sixth spot. BMW now trails Tesla by one spot, at 13th.
