Honda has officially launched the all-new 11th-generation Honda Civic in Thailand yesterday, making it the first country in the ASEAN region to get welcome the car.
The all-new Honda Civic will be available in three trim levels in Thailand, namely the entry level Civic EL, followed by the Civic EL+, and the range-topping Civic RS
No more 1.8-litre engine
The big news with the all-new Honda Civic in Thailand is that the 1.8-litre naturally aspirated i-VTEC engine is now out of the picture, as all three variants will be powered by an updated version of the current 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo engine we have at the moment.
Producing 178 PS at 6,000 rpm and 240 Nm of torque from 1,700 to 4,500 rpm, the new Civic’s engine which is paired with a CVT gearbox, now makes 5 PS and 20 Nm more than the outgoing model. Meanwhile, fuel consumption rating stands at 17.2 kilometres per litre.
More rear legroom
In terms of dimensions, the all-new Civic measures 4,678 mm long, 1,802 mm wide, and 1,415 mm in height. Compared to the outgoing Civic Ketam, the new Civic Udang is 30 mm longer, 3 mm wider, and 1 mm lower.
The wheelbase on the other hand has further stretched by 33 mm to 2,733 mm, translating into more leg space for the rear occupants.
Looking much cleaner than the outgoing model, the new face of Civic features a clean and sophisticated look, emphasizing a low and wide stature with strong horizontal elements, including offsetting the upright grille below the headlights.
Wider track
At the rear, the wider track of Civic is complemented by new taillights that emphasize width and on-road stability, and a playfully upswept yet aerodynamically-efficient trailing edge to the trunk lid.
The range-topping Civic RS gets extras like a few blacked-out components to make the car look sportier, as well as black 17-inch wheels versus the other variants’ 16-inch rims.
Inside, the dashboard has been completely redesigned to look more minimalistic. Features wise, the Civic RS comes with a new 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a nine-inch infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto as well as the Honda Connect features.
New interior features
The Thai market also gets wireless charger in the range-topping variant. Meanwhile, the lower end variants get 7-inch instrument display.
The list of standard features include halogen projector headlights, LED DRLs, LED taillights, keyless entry, walk-away auto lock, push-button start, fabric seats, single-zone auto climate control, a seven-inch instrument display and a reverse camera.
The EL+ variant gets extras like auto-folding door mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather upholstery and an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat
Civic RS
Moving up the ladder, the full-spec Civic RS gets full-LED headlights, auto wipers, black Ultrasuede upholstery, red ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, alloy pedals, paddle shifters and a new Sport driving mode.
Last but not least, the all-new Civic comes with Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance features as standard in Thailand, along the Traffic Jam Assist feature.
Expected to be launched in countries like the Philippines and Singapore next, there is still no word on when the all-new Civic will be launched in Malaysia or the variants which we will be getting. So watch this space for more updates on the new Honda Civic “Udang”.
