Japanese luxury carmaker Lexus has revealed the all-new TX crossover SUV. The new Lexus TX is the luxury firm’s first-ever legit three-row SUV and is based on Toyota’s Grand Highlander.
The all-new Lexus TX is quite a massive SUV and is similar in size to the Mercedes GLS, Audi Q7 & BMW X7 in terms of its length and wheelbase. The new TX is offered in three guises – 350, 500h and 550h+.
The Lexus TX 350 is the one with the conventional powertrain, drawing power from a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. The Lexus TX 350’s engine pushes out 275bhp and 430Nm of peak torque which is sent to either the front or all four wheels by an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The TX 500h adds an electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack to aid the 2.4-litre turbo petrol. This electrified powertrain pushes out 361bhp and 555Nm of peak torque. The hybrid powertrain sends power to all four wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
The most powerful of the TX lineup is the 550h+ variant. This upgrades the ICE component of the plug-in hybrid powertrain to a 3.5-litre V6 ups the power to 400bhp. Torque figures are currently unavailable.
The new Lexus TX crossover SUV is 5,160mm long (5,170mm for the TX 500h), 1990mm wide, and 1,780mm tall. The wheelbase of the all-new Lexus TX is 2,950mm long.
The all-new Lexus TX SUV rides on 22-inch wheels that are shod with 255/45 R22 tyres. The base TX 350 though gets 20-inch wheels shod with 255/55 R20 tyres as standard.
The exterior design is typical of Lexus. At the front is the latest iteration of the unified spindle design, this time as a mostly closed-off grille. The angular headlamps on the recently revealed LBX are connected together by a trim piece that runs under the lip of the bonnet.
The sides are rather conventional with slightly flared-out wheelarches playing host to new alloy wheels. The pillars and ORVMs are blacked out and at the rear, the integrated spoiler and the full-width LED lightbar style taillight are the design highlights.
The interiors of the all-new TX SUV from Lexus are spacious and luxurious. The boot can swallow 569 litres of luggage with all three rows of seats up which increases to 1,625 litres with the third row folded down.
The interiors feature leather upholstery while two large displays dominate the dashboard. The driver’s display measures 12.3 inches across while the infotainment touchscreen is 14 inches across and offers wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.
Thoughts About The Lexus TX
The all-new Lexus TX SUV is as big as it gets and with three rows can carry around the extended family with ease. It’s just a shame it is limited to the North American market.
