The Polestar 3 is the Swedish company’s first SUV and first car planned to be produced on two continents. The fully electric five-seat SUV produces up to 360 kW or 489 horsepower and comes equipped with an impressive 379 miles.
Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, described the car as “powerful” adding that it appeals to the sense with a “distinct, Scandinavian design and excellent driving dynamics”.
The company added that it hopes to make the SUV not only more relevant and responsible, but “highly desirable”.
The standard long-range car priced from £79,900 boasts a range of up to 379 miles and accelerates from zero to 62mph in five seconds.
Drivers can also opt for the Performance Pack, which comes with an extra 28bhp and reduces the zero to 62mph time to 4.7 seconds.

This does, however, also reduce the range by 19 miles to 360 miles.
A decoupling function is also available for the rear electric motor, allowing the car to run only on the front electric motor to save energy under certain circumstances.
Joakim Rydholm, Polestar’s chief chassis engineer, said: “Our goal was to offer the performance and precision that define all Polestar cars, without compromising the comfort of the daily drive.
“To do this, we used new components like the adaptive air suspension to engineer the ‘Polestar feeling’ for this type of car.”

Many are touting the new Polestar 3 as the closest competition to the Tesla Model Y, with both looking to dominate the electric SUV market.
So far this year, the Tesla Model Y has already registered more than 20,000 vehicles in the UK, making it the eighth most popular new model of the year.
The Long Range Model Y has been in production since 2020 and comes in at £57,990, with a maximum range of 331 miles.
It also has a Performance version, with takes 3.5 seconds to reach 60mph, but only has a range of 319 miles, with a price tag of £67,990.

The production will be split between the Volvo Cars’ facility in Chengdu, China in 2023 and additional manufacturing in Ridgeville, South Carolina.
With Volvo Cars embarking on a new era of safety, Polestar 3 carries next-generation advanced active and passive safety technology from Volvo Cars as part of its DNA.
This includes the latest innovation – interior radar sensors that can detect sub-millimetre movements in the interior of the car, to help protect against accidentally leaving children or pets inside.
Further collaborations with industry-leading safety technology partners like Zenseact, Luminar and Smart Eye, provide Polestar 3 with cutting-edge ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) technology that integrates seamlessly thanks to the centralised computing power.
The SUV has been praised for its safety features.
It also comes equipped with five radar modules, five external cameras and 12 external ultrasonic sensors to support numerous advanced safety features.
Materials used inside Polestar 3 have been selected for their sustainability credentials, while raising premium aesthetics and luxury tactility.
These include bio-attributed MicroTech, animal welfare-certified leather and fully traceable wool upholsteries.
Polestar hopes to fulfil its Zero Project, which aims to make the first truly climate-neutral car by 2030.
It aims to remove all greenhouse gas emissions from the supply chain and end life, something which has been dubbed an “unprecedented challenge”.
It is said to involve innovative design, circular batteries, recycled materials as well as renewable energy throughout the supply chain.
