The Africa Twin makes over thrice as much power than the Pulsar. But that’s barely a problem for the NS200 as you’ll see in this duel
Over the years, we’ve seen all kinds of crazy drag races between superbikes, commuter bikes, bikes and cars, and even bikes and jet aircrafts for that matter. However, this particular drag race between a souped-up Bajaj Pulsar NS200 and a Honda Africa Twin takes crazy to a whole new level.
Yes, you read that right. In Colombia, a person aboard a modified Bajaj Pulsar NS200 went against Honda’s flagship ADV, the Africa Twin CRF1100, in a drag race, and the results were as crazy as the race itself.
The Contenders
The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 is exported to international markets and Colombia is part of it
The first contender here is our homegrown naked, the Pulsar NS200, made by our very own Swadeshi Bajaj. Before you raise any suspicion, let us tell you that Bajaj exports the Pulsar NS200 to international markets which also include Colombia.
While the stock bike makes 24PS, this right here is a pretty souped-up version of it
In Colombia, the Pulsar NS200 retails at Rs 2.3 lakh (converted from Colombian Peso) and makes the same 24PS as the Indian model from its 199cc single-cylinder mill.
What’s interesting, though, is that the bike here is pretty souped-up packing an extended swingarm, a freeflow exhaust, and paper-thin slick tires to help with straight-line speed. There are probably some engine mods going on too, but the video doesn’t really highlight that.
Against the NS200 is the Honda’s flagship ADV, the Africa Twin
Going against the Pulsar is Honda’s flagship ADV, the Africa Twin, which draws power from a 1,082cc, twin-cylinder engine and pumps out 98PS. This is a completely stock bike, though, so it is expected to tip the scale at around 240kg.
Plus, the Africa Twin rider doesn’t seem to be changing gears, so it could be the DCT variant which, in theory, should have slower acceleration than the manual variant.
Bajaj Pulsar NS200 vs Honda Africa Twin Drag Race
In today’s episode of crazy, we have a Bajaj Pulsar NS200 taking on a Honda Africa Twin in a drag race!
Now that you know about the bikes, let’s come to race.
As soon as the lights go off, both motorcycles get an epic launch and the race is neck and neck….for about two seconds. Post that, the tricked-out Pulsar 200NS speeds past the hefty Africa Twin and continues to stay ahead.
The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 is no slouch and soon catches up. Swipe up to know who wins this nail-biter.
The Honda does start catching the NS200, though, but it isn’t enough and the latter takes the win by just 0.011 seconds.
What Did We Learn?
Coming to the race, as soon as the lights go out, the Africa Twin gets the early jump, which is quite short-lived
So how did the Pulsar win? Well, the decisive factor here is weight and the tires. You see, with barely any bodywork, the Pulsar NS200 is probably A LOT lighter than the stock Africa Twin.
This, coupled with the slim tires (which have a very small contact patch), should give it excellent straight-line speed and acceleration. Not to forget, the bike also boasts an extended swingarm, thus ensuring the rear tire puts all the power down as efficiently as possible.
It makes 98PS from its 1,082cc engine while weighing nearly 240kg
For all the Africa Twin fans out there, don’t feel bad and feel free to challenge a Pulsar NS200 owner for an off-road race to make the score even. Don’t forget to send us the footage, though!
