More than 740,500 GMC Terrain compact SUVs are under recall following the discovery that the headlight housings could cause excessive glare.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2010-17 Terrains. In detail, reflection caused by the headlight housings may illuminate areas above the vehicle and outside of the driver’s view with excessively bright light, which may cause glare for other drivers, reducing their visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
This won’t come as a surprise to those who follow the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s ratings. The agency awarded the 2017 Terrain its lowest rating of poor for the SUV’s halogen headlights in its first year of such testing, and noted specifically that the low beams “created excessive glare.”
A remedy is currently under development, and owners will be notified April 23. Those with further questions can call GMC at 800-462-8782 (GM’s number for this recall is N222363740), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
