Kia just issued a sizable recall for 257,998 Optima sedans over interior roof headliner plates that may be improperly secured.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2012-13 Optima sedans. The right and left headliner plates in these vehicles, which are used as an energy absorbing structure of the headliner, may not be properly secured and could potentially detach and strike an occupant in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
To fix the problem, dealers will inspect and secure the headliner plates as needed, for free. Kia will begin notifying owners Sept. 26, but those with further questions can call the automaker at 800-333-4542 (Kia’s number for this recall is SC245) or visit NHTSA’s website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
