Toyota has released a teaser of its upcoming next-generation Land Cruiser Prado SUV. The teaser provides a glimpse of the model by revealing the silhouette. That being said, here is everything we know so far about the next-generation 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV.
Platform
The upcoming next-generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV will use the same TNGA-F platform as the bigger Toyota Land Cruiser 300. This means the next-generation Prado SUV will not only be bigger but also use many premium bits from the Land Cruiser 300 series.
Design
The upcoming next-generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV features a completely new design language consisting of boxy looks and sharp lines. This makes the next-generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado look substantially different compared to its predecessor.
In fact, we expect the upcoming next-generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV to appeal more to off-road enthusiasts as well as lifestyle buyers. We also expect this bolder design language to positively reflect in the sales figures of the model.
Competition
The outgoing version of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado shares many of its components with the Toyota 4Runner, FJ Cruiser and Hilux-based models. As such, its main competitors included the likes of Ford Everest, Isuzu MU-X, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and more.
Thanks to its new platform, the upcoming next-generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will be positioned as a more premium product that will compete against the likes of the Land Rover Defender, BMW X5, Volvo XC90, and other premium SUVs.
Powertrain
The outgoing version of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is powered by the same 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine as the Toyota Fortuner. This engine puts out 201bhp and 500Nm of torque. Moreover, there is a possibility of Toyota offering this engine in the next-generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.
That being said, Toyota is not expected to introduce the 3.3-litre, turbocharged, V6 diesel engine that powers the Land Cruiser 300 range of models. This is likely to avoid direct competition with the bigger Land Cruiser 300 series.
There is also a possibility that the next-generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado could feature a 2.4-litre “Hybrid Max” engine. This is the same engine that powers the likes of Toyota Tacoma and Lexus TX.
Launch
The upcoming next-generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV is expected to go on sale in 2024 in the US market. Moreover, it will take at least 2 years for the upcoming next-generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado to reach the Indian shores, officially.
