It looks spacious… just like the Toyota Grand Highlander.
A new teaser reveals our first look at the inside of the 2024 Lexus TX, an upcoming three-row crossover model that will replace the RX-L. Lexus previously teased a cropped view of the exterior, but this is arguably the best look we've had of the TX. As you can see from the first image, the TX features captain's chairs in the second row with a large center console mounted between them. A similar removable console is available in the Toyota Grand Highlander, which this car will share underpinnings, but it's unclear if the TX will also come with an eight-seat layout as an option.
The seats themselves have a different leather than the Grand Highlander, and the front seats look more heavily bolstered. Since the Toyota version already offers heated and ventilated seats in the first and second rows, we expect the TX to up the ante with at least a heated third row. “Style, comfort, and luxury for all passengers,” Lexus says.
From the second teaser image we can spot a Mark Levinson audio system, which should offer more speakers than the Grand Highlander's JBL system. The TX will also get the same electronic door handles that appear on the NX and RX.
Lexus hasn't teased anything official regarding the TX's powertrain, but we know there will be a hybrid and non-hybrid version based on trademark filings. The base TX 350 will likely use the same 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder found in the Grand Highlander, tuned to produce a bit more power. The TX 500h should get the Hybrid Max powertrain, likely matching the RX 500h F-Sport Performance with 367 horsepower and 406 lb-ft. As we learned from driving the Grand Highlander, Toyota can extract more power from the Hybrid Max setup simply by using premium fuel.
The TX should benefit from other improvements over the Grand Highlander, including more sound insulation, adaptive suspension, larger wheels, a larger touchscreen, and a power third row. We are guessing on these features, though, as none of them have been confirmed thus far.
Lexus will reveal the TX on June 8 at 8:00 p.m. EST alongside the all-new Lexus GX, which will debut simultaneously. Though the two models will be roughly the same size, the GX will be more rugged with the same body-on-frame underpinnings as the Lexus LX and Toyota Tundra and a twin-turbo V6 engine.
