The Santa Fe leans hard into its purpose as a lifestyle crossover.
The all-new Hyundai Santa Fe has been revealed for the 2024 model year, sporting an entirely new design language that, as promised, ensures it doesn't look like any other Hyundai product. In its fifth generation, the Santa Fe retains its midsize classification, albeit slotting in beneath the Palisade three-row SUV. Importantly the Santa Fe has once again become a three-row SUV.
Mechanical details have not been divulged, but this is typical of Hyundai, with a visual reveal coming ahead of a technical reveal at a later date.
The new Santa Fe is characterized by its square shape, lead up front by double-H pixelized headlight details and an H-shaped front fascia, with the H-shape continuing in the rear light clusters.
Other design elements include 21-inch alloy wheels, but these are likely to only be available on the topmost trims.
The boxy design up front continues throughout, with angular wheel arches and a boxy side profile that Hyundai says gives it a distinct silhouette that doubles in providing best-in-class utility.
Just how much cargo space there is remains a mystery, but we know that the Santa Fe is a three-row crossover again. The move comes after the last generation dropped the three-row configuration to make space in the lineup for the Palisade. The new car has grown in size, which could pose a threat to Palisade sales. Both the second- and third-row seats can be folded to maximize cargo space when not in use.
“The all-new Santa Fe is an SUV that finds a perfect balance between city life and the great outdoors, handling everything from busy family itineraries to car camping adventures,” said SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Global Design Center. “With its longer wheelbase, roomy interior, and terrace-like tailgate space, the new Santa Fe leans into its SUV strengths to offer more versatility than ever before as well as a premium customer experience.”
Technology comes standard as you'd expect of any car debuting in 2023, with twin 12.3-inch displays joined in a panoramic infotainment experience on an otherwise uncluttered dash. A full-width horizontal detail under the main dash is primarily decorative, but helps hide the slimline climate control vents, with the climate controlled via what appears to be a lower touchscreen that thankfully also includes rotary knobs for the actual temperature functions. Mercifully, there appear to be some physical volume control knobs too.
Hyundai says the bright interior adds to the sense of spaciousness but also highlights how eco-friendly it is thanks to a suede headliner, car mats, and seatbacks made from recycled materials, while the crash pads and door trim covers are made from eco-friendly leatherette. Despite this, soft-touch wood-patterned paneling and Nappa leather seats will add an element of prestige.
We don't have to wait long for the full reveal, as Hyundai says a global debut will happen in August.
