The segment-leading Toyota HiAce is set to adopt barn doors, with the ergonomic offering set to join the options list from the second half of 2022.
Toyota Australia has announced rear barn doors will become the latest piece of optional equipment available for the HiAce – its popular van which holds over one-third of the 2.5- to 3.5-tonne commercial vehicle market.
The Japanese manufacturer says the decision has been based on feedback from its existing customer base, with the new rear doors set to provide better support for buyers.
“Driven by strong customer demand, the wide-opening HiAce barn door will provide customers with a new ergonomic solution to suit user needs,” said a Toyota spokesperson .
“More details will be revealed closer to the model’s arrival in Australia.”
The announcement counters Toyota’s decision to trim the HiAce range over the past 12 months, as the petrol V6 engine was dropped from the line-up in May last year, followed by the van becoming available in white only from the second half of last year.
