We now know that the 2023 Toyota Camry won’t be seeing a full redesign this year (but, maybe next year?). However, its top competitors aren’t waiting for the Camry to keep up. One of its top rivals, the Honda Accord midsize sedan, should be receiving a full redesign for the 2023 model year. How will these two new cars stack up when they go on sale later this year?

Where they’re similar: The similarities between the 2023 Camry and 2023 Accord will likely be the same as they’ve always been. Both of these new cars are comfortable midsize sedans, endlessly reliable, and expected to start under $30,000. Both Toyota and Honda also offer hybrid variants of their affordable midsize family sedans.
Where they’re different: Edmunds has released its estimates of what’s changing in the new 2023 Accord, and it seems to track. Based on changes that Honda made to the Civic sedan, Edmunds guessed that the Accord will receive “a number of small changes that add up to a big improvement on the current car.” The Accord is more stylish than the Camry (always has been) and while it’s less powerful, it’s more fun to drive.

The Toyota Camry is already the best-selling car of 2022, and it won’t be surprising if the 2023 Camry is for next year. This midsize sedan brings a level of consistency, ease of use, and basic simplicity that people love year over year. It is more powerful overall than the Accord, with both of its gas-powered engines boasting more horsepower than the Accord. Its base 202-horsepower four-cylinder engine is straightforward and smooth. The 2023 Camry’s 301-horsepower six-cylinder engine is one of the last remaining V6 engines in the segment.
The 2023 Honda Accord offers turbo engines
We don’t yet have confirmed specs for the 2023 Accord, but it’s very likely that the all-new Accord midsize sedan will offer the same engine options as the current model year. One option is the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, good for 192 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. The Accord’s other option is a more potent 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine creating 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.
Again, we’re unsure if the 2023 Accord will feature these exact same engines with the same specs, but it’s likely.
2023 Camry Hybrid vs. 2023 Accord Hybrid
Both of these midsize sedans have offered hybrid variants, and that should remain the same for 2023. We know that Toyota’s Camry lineup will include a fuel-efficient hybrid-electric model. The 2023 Camry Hybrid powertrain will offer 176 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque. Current fuel-economy ratings are set at 51 mpg city, 53 mpg highway, and 52 mpg combined.
Specifics for the 2023 Accord haven’t been released, but the current model Accord Hybrid powertrain has a total output of 212 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque and sees up to 48 mpg city and 47 mpg highway. It’s likely that the 2023 Honda Accord will have similar specs.

It’s hard not to recommend the fully redesigned new 2023 Accord over the barely-touched 2023 Camry, but I can deliver a word of caution. The first model year in a new generation is one that can run into a lot of problems. A fully redesigned midsize sedan can have a few kinks that need to be ironed out in that first year or two.
However, Honda has been doing this for a while. They know a thing or two—and with so many other cars in its lineup receiving full redesigns, I’m more willing to trust their work with the 2023 Accord.
There’s not much about the 2023 Camry that gets me excited. But a redesigned 2023 Accord? That’s promising.
