South Korean carmaker Hyundai has revealed the 2023 Kona in both ICE and EV configurations. The new-gen Kona features a bold redesign which gives it a more muscular and high-tech look.
The all-new Hyundai Kona will be offered in four different configurations – pure ICE, hybrid, N-Line (sporty) and the pure EV. The all-new Hyundai Kona features a universal architecture that underpins all four variants, all of which feature unique styling.
In a surprising move, the Hyundai Kona was first designed as an EV first. All new 2023 Hyundai Kona models feature a LED lightbar that spans the width of the bonnet with the EV sporting a pixelated look more in line with Hyundai’s Ioniq lineup. The Kona’s headlights are situated lower on the front bumper on the flared-out wheelarch sections.

The headlights are connected to the lights at the rear by a character line that runs across the door handles of the new Kona which also features sculpted sides that remind you of the larger Tucson. The flared-out wheelarches play host to snazzy 19-inch alloys.
The rear section of the new Kona EV is a mirror of the front end with a lightbar running across its width with the other lights occupying a section on the lower section of the bumper. The N Line variant gets a roof-mounted spoiler and reprofiled bumpers.
The interiors of the new second-generation Kona have also undergone quite a change. The dash plays host to twin 12.3-inch widescreen displays for the instrumentation and infotainment respectively. The multi-layered dash looks more premium as do the materials used. The column-type gear shifter has also been moved to behind the steering wheel to free up more space.
Speaking of space, the new Hyundai Kona is a lot larger than the first generation of the SUV. The new 2023 Hyundai Kona is 150mm longer than the OG SUV at 4,355mm and the width has also increased by 60mm. Most importantly for those seated inside, the new Kona’s wheelbase is 60mm longer than that of the first-gen SUV.
Speaking about the new second-generation Kona, SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Center said, “Upscaled with Kona’s unique character, the all-new KONA confidently expresses its bold and dynamic presence. Kona has evolved in every respect to embrace an even wider range of diversity, to become a true lifestyle supporter.”
Thoughts About The New 2023 Hyundai Kona
The all-new second-generation Hyundai Kona is a lot more muscular and sophisticated than before and with its larger dimensions, should be a more comfortable space for those sitting inside it as well.
