Hyundai Australia has confirmed the pricing and specifications for the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5, with a new bigger battery supplying more range and a top-spec variant that adds a few techy features.
Now a three-variant family, the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 will now start at $72,000 before on-road costs for the base-spec rear-wheel drive Ioniq 5 Dynamiq – $2100 more than before.
With the whole Ioniq electric car range set to cop a bigger 77.4kWh battery (over the old 72.6kWh version), even the base Dynamiq gets some more impressive specs. Its 168kW/350Nm output is up a little from 160kW, and its WLTP-rated driving range improves from 481km to 507km.
The all-wheel-drive Techniq, once the range-topper, now starts at $79,500, or $2000 more than previously.
With the larger battery, it now makes 239kW and 605Nm, thanks to a combination of 74kW and 165kW motors. Previously, the maximum power output was 225kW. Range is also bumped up to 454km from its previous 430km. Its 0-100km/h claimed time is pegged at 5.1 seconds.
Finally, the new 2023 model range adds a top spec, called Epiq to keep the ‘Q’ theme, which is mechanically identical to the Dynamiq but adds some comfort features as well as the panoramic Vision Roof previously an option on the Dynamiq.
Starting at $85,000, the Epiq gets Digital Side Mirrors (DSMs) which replace the physical glass mirrors seen on most cars with cameras that relay the view to screens inside the cabin, similar to those seen on the likes of the Audi e-Tron.
The Epiq also gets an upgraded heat pump which uses otherwise wasted energy “from other systems to warm the cabin in a reverse cycle air-conditioning system”. It’s also able to keep the battery warm in cold climates to optimum temperatures for both driving and charging.
As a feature of this, the Ioniq 5 can pre-heat the battery to optimum charging temperature “when a DC charger is selected as the navigation destination”. All Ioniq 5s are able to charge from 10-80 per cent battery in as little as 18 minutes.
Hyundai Australia has confirmed it will bring a new batch of 200 Ioniq 5s to Oz, though the Epiq variant won’t be available as part of them. Instead orders for this batch are to open online from 1pm AEDT on October 26, while the top-spec Epiq will be available to order from late 2022.
Industry figures released after the end of September 2022 show Hyundai has registered 569 sales of the Ioniq 5 since it launched locally, with 140 of those in September alone.
