Broad range including plug-in hybrid at launch for Lexus’ new-gen mid-size SUV arriving January
Lexus Australia has officially priced its second-generation Lexus NX mid-size SUV, which will arrive in showrooms from January 2022 with four powertrain options – including a plug-in hybrid option for the first time – and entry pricing that now starts above $60K.
That means entry into the 2022 Lexus NX range is now $3300 higher than before, at $60,800 plus on-road costs for a new entry-level front-wheel drive NX 250.
Powered by a 152kW/243Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine for the first time, standard equipment on the NX 250 includes 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and 8.0-inch infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and digital radio.
There’s also new-to-NX safety gear including rear exit assist, intersection turn assist and more.
For another $3000, an Enhancement Pack adds wireless phone charging, a moonroof and a kick sensor for the electric tailgate.
Meanwhile, the Lexus NX 350 (from $77,900 plus ORCs) is available in a single F Sport grade, powered by an all-new 205kW/430Nm 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, mated to the same eight-speed torque-converter auto as the NX 250 but adding Lexus’ all-wheel drive system.
Standard features include a larger 14.0-inch touch-screen, colour head-up display and more. See below for a full list.
The Lexus NX 350h is expected to be the volume-selling powertrain, entering as the most powerful four-cylinder hybrid the Japanese car-maker has ever sold in Australia.
Available in three grades – Luxury, F Sport and Sports Luxury – the NX 350h (from $65,600) gets power from a 140kW/293Nm 2.5-litre petrol engine paired to a CVT auto, lithium-ion battery and either one or two electric motors, depending on whether it’s the front- or all-wheel drive model.
The hybrid system delivers a total combined power output of 179kW, no matter which drivetrain is used, with the front e-motor developing 134kW/270Nm and the rear (on AWD versions) 40kW/121Nm.
Elsewhere, Lexus Australia has now confirmed its NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid (PHEV) – which was originally slated to arrive months after the petrol and regular hybrid models arrived in January – will now lob at the same time next month.
Arriving in a single all-wheel drive F Sport variant and capping the 2022 NX range at $89,900 plus on-road costs, the plug-in hybrid powertrain brings a maximum power output of 227kW thanks to the combination of a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, two electric motors and an 18.1kWh lithium-ion battery.
The first PHEV option for the NX range is set to offer 87km of pure-electric driving range, acceleration from 0-100km/h in 6.3 seconds and a combined fuel consumption rating of just 1.3L/100km.
