The 2022 Lexus NX will arrive in Australia in late January, priced from $60,800 before on-road costs.

As reported, the new NX range will offer a choice of four powertrains – comprising two pure petrol engines, one self-charging hybrid and one plug-in hybrid, the lattermost a first for Lexus – and three equipment levels, aided by a selection of option packs.

Prices start from $60,800 before on-road costs, and span to $83,900 before on-road costs for the flagship NX350h hybrid, or $89,900 before on-road costs for the NX450h+ plug-in hybrid – significant increases over the outgoing model, priced from $57,500 to $78,737 before on-road costs (NX300 Luxury to NX300h Sports Luxury).

Powering the entry-level NX250 – available in Luxury form only – is a 2.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 152kW and 243Nm to the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Lexus claims an 8.7-second 0-100km/h time, and a combined fuel economy claim of 6.9 litres per 100 kilometres.

The NX350 is the flagship petrol-only option, pairing a 205kW/430Nm 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, for a 7.0-second 0-100km/h sprint and an 8.1L/100km combined fuel economy claim.

Opening the electrified range is the NX350h hybrid, mating a 2.5-litre petrol engine with an assortment of electric motors for 179kW combined, driving the front or all wheels with the help of a continuously-variable transmission (CVT). Combined fuel economy sits at 5.0L/100km, while the 0-100km/h time ranges from 8.7 seconds with front-wheel drive, or 7.7 seconds with all-wheel drive.

Sitting atop the range is the NX450h+ plug-in hybrid – the first PHEV from the Lexus brand – employing a 2.5-litre petrol engine and two electric motors developing 227kW combined, and capable of a 6.3-second 0-100km/h dash.

The PHEV’s 18.1kWh battery allows for 87km of electric driving range on the lenient NEDC test cycle (derived from laboratory testing), while the combined fuel economy claim is 1.3L/100km.

Standard features fitted to the entry-level NX Luxury include a 9.8-inch touchscreen, 8.0-inch instrument cluster display, electric front seats with heating, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, an electric tailgate, and a full suite of active safety features.

More expensive variants add 20-inch wheels, a larger 14-inch touchscreen, head-up display, tri-beam LED headlights, 360-degree camera, wireless charging, ventilated seats and a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system. Three option packs are available, split across the variants.

The entire 2022 Lexus NX range will go on sale in Australia in late January.
