Lexus has revealed its version of the 300-Series Toyota LandCruiser: the all new 2022 Lexus LX. Using contemporary Lexus styling combined with the rugged off-road ability of the LandCruiser 300 Series, the Lexus LX is due to hit Australian shores in 2022 with a new platform, a new drivetrain and more available tech than before.
As with the previous model, there will be two models of the 2022 Lexus LX. There is the LX600, which is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre petrol V6 that produces 305kW of power and 650Nm of torque. The LX500d uses the same new engine as the LC300: a 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 diesel engine that makes 227kW of power and 700Nm of torque. Both engines come equipped with a 10-speed torque converter automatic transmission. There are also new grades available, including the F Sport grade and a new exclusive four-seat VIP grade.
Based on an all-new platform, the 2022 Lexus LX has dropped 100kg over the previous model and is said to have improved front and rear end stability due to better weight distribution.
The all-new LX offers a new state-of-the-art multimedia system that is designed to provide easy-to-see information so that it can be operated as easily as a familiar smartphone or tablet. The system includes a hybrid navigation system that combines a conventional in-vehicle navigation system with a connected navigation system that uses cloud-based map information. There is an all-new 12.3-inch infotainment screen that features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The lower 7.0-inch screen in the LX features climate control settings and the adjustments to the multi terrain system.
The LX is equipped with a 10-speaker ‘Lexus Premium Sound System’ or an optional Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound System with a huge 25 speakers, the highest number ever in a Lexus, including a large-capacity subwoofer that utilises the body frame.
The 2022 Lexus LX comes with keyless entry and push button start, but it goes a little further than most cars with fingerprint technology to start the car from the push button ignition.
Lexus Australia Chief Executive Scott Thompson has said the new LX “Combines the supreme human-centred luxury that distinguishes the brand with the most capable off-road vehicle ever produced by Lexus”.
A new front grille design is shown on the 2022 Lexus LX with a more three-dimensional grille than we’ve seen and also helps to aid cooling of the new engines. New on the rear of the car is the new Lexus badge, which replaces the ‘L’ logo with individual lettering.
Inside the 2022 Lexus LX is covered in soft leather and wood trim. The pedals in the new LX are now slightly further apart than before for more precise pedal control when off-roading and the seats are more cushioned for extra comfort. Several interior colour combinations will be available, including tan and red colouring.
The off-road ability of the new LX is highlighted by the new ‘Multi Terrain’ select system that can now be used in high and low range. It can adjust the vehicle’s settings automatically to the surface you are on to make for easy driving. Approach, departure and ramp-over angles have been maintained from the previous LX, as have the maximum stable inclination angle of 44 degrees, climbing ability of 45 degrees and maximum wading depth of 700mm.
The 2022 Lexus LX is due in Australia in 2022, with local pricing and specifications to be announced before then.
