Hyundai’s Santa Fe SUV has copped a price increase for the 2022 model year, but it comes with a boost in specification levels across the range.
Pricing has increased by $850 apiece for the entry level Santa Fe and flagship Highlander grades, by $1450 for the Active and $1700 for the Elite.
Pricing now kicks off at $45,550 for the base Santa Fe in two-wheel drive (2WD) petrol guise and tops out at $66,050 for the range-topping all-wheel drive (AWD) diesel Highlander.
The Santa Fe undercuts the starting price of all of its key rivals, including the related Kia Sorento (from $47,650), Mazda CX-9 ($45,990) and Toyota Kluger ($47,650).
All variants powered by the 200kW/331Nm 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine drive the front wheels, while all 148kW/440Nm 2.2-litre turbo-diesel Santa Fes come standard with all-wheel drive.
Opting for the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine adds $3500 to the price of the equivalent petrol model grade.
As part of the update, each grade gains new standard features. All variants now come with a front centre airbag that helps protect occupants in the event of a side collision, and multi-collision brake which brings the vehicle to a stop if brakes aren’t detected after the airbags are deployed.
As well as these new features the base Santa Fe, Active and Elite now have a USB port in the third row.
The Santa Fe Active also adds chrome flourishes for the grille, skid plate, door garnish, door handle and bumper.
Elite grades gain the larger 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster from the Highlander – up from the 4.2-inch multifunction display in the outgoing version – as well as heated front seats and LED tail-lights.
The updated Santa Fe arrives a little over a year after the launch of the heavily revised version of the fourth-generation seven-seat SUV.
Last year the Santa Fe was outsold by its Kia Sorento cousin, 5048 sales to 5126. The Kluger was well ahead on 9320 sales, while the Mazda captured 6630.
