Along with the facelift in 2019, Hyundai added a Plug-in Hybrid variant to the fourth-gen Santa Fe range globally, and the variant reached the U.S. market last year. Here are six things you need to know about the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe plug in hybrid:
1. A turbo’d plug-in hybrid SUV
Hyundai has employed the G4F III SmartStream 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine in the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV. The engine, tuned to produce 178 horsepower is clubbed with a 66.9 kW (90 horsepower)/224 lb.-ft. electric motor. The result of the combination is a combined maximum power of 261 horsepower. A 6-speed automatic transmission and the HTRAC AWD system are standard in the most powerful Santa Fe variant.
2. 31 miles of EV range
The 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe plug in hybrid has a 13.8 kWh (360V, 38.3 Ah) Lithium-ion battery pack to power its 66.9 kW (90 horsepower)/224 lb.-ft. electric motor. This battery pack is liquid-cooled and mounted under the floor in a waterproof structure. It allows a pure electric driving range (EPA) of 31 miles. The combined fuel economy rating (EPA) is 76 MPGe (using both electricity and gasoline)/33 MPG (using only gasoline). The retail prices include a 120V charger that allows Level 1 charging.
