The 2022 Honda HR-V has just been launched in Indonesia, which also saw the global debut of the marque’s VTEC Turbo engine in the compact crossover.
In stark contrast to the Honda HR-V in Thailand, which only comes in the e:HEV hybrid flavour, the compact crossover in Indonesia will be offered with two petrol-only powertrains.
The lower three variants (S, E, and SE) gets a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated VTEC engine making 121 hp and 145 Nm of torque, while the range-topping RS variant will feature a 1.5-litre inline-four VTEC Turbo engine making 177 hp and 240 Nm of torque. Both engines are paired exclusively to a CVT gearbox on all variants.
If the VTEC Turbo powertrain sounds familiar, that’s because it’s also shared with the recently-unveiled 11th-generation Civic – although we in Malaysia get a slightly higher tune at 182 hp and 240 Nm.
In terms of standard equipment, all variants of the all-new HR-V in Indonesia will come equipped with the Honda Sensing ADAS suite as standard. The system includes features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control (with low speed follow), automatic high-beam, as well as the Lead Car Departure Notification.
Other standard equipment include the LED headlights and tail lights, 17-inch wheels, and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment display. As usual, moving up the trim levels will net you even more goodies and creature comforts including larger wheels, rear aircon vents, gearshift pedals, leather seats, panoramic sunroof, and a larger infotainment display.
But of course, the cream-of-the-crop items are all reserved for the range-topping RS Turbo, which comes with a variant-exclusive body kit, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, a driving mode selector that includes a Sports mode, a handsfree powered tailgate, as well as fancier interior trimmings.
Pricing wise, the all-new Honda HR-V in Indonesia starts at 355.9 million rupiah (approx. RM105k) for the entry-level S variant, and tops out at 499.9 million rupiah (approx. RM148k), representing a slight price hike (3-61 million rupiah on the top end) across the board – which is to be expected due to the increase in standard equipment, not to mention a brand-new powertrain option on the RS.
The all-new Honda HR-V is expected to arrive in Malaysia sometime this year, and based on its statement earlier this year, we can also expect the VTEC Turbo and e-HEV hybrid powertrains to be featured in the HR-V here on our shores, alongside the Honda Sensing driver assistance suite.
