Australian pricing and specifications for the 2022 Honda HR-V have been announced ahead of the car’s launch, which is due in the coming weeks. Priced from $36,700 drive away for the entry-level Vi X, the new HR-V is priced $5,400 higher than the previous generation car. Honda says that’s because the new car has vastly more standard equipment and is more sophisticated than before.
“Repositioned as a sophisticated entry point to the Honda vehicle line-up in Australia, the all-new HR-V represents the beginning of a new chapter for Honda’s small SUV, elevating premium styling and quality alongside the HR-V’s enduring trademarks of spaciousness and versatility,” said Honda Australia Director, Mr. Stephen Collins.
“It successfully extends the Honda brand’s reputation for quality, functionality and practicality, and presents it with an individual and fun style, all within a compact package designed to appeal to modern consumers.”
Revealed globally last year, the 2022 Honda HR-V ushers in a new look and according to Honda, a more premium feel than the last-generation car. Now available only as a four-seater – apparently blame Australian Design Rules for that – the HR-V is available in two models: the entry-level Vi X and top-spec e:HEV L hybrid. The Vi X is priced at $36,700 drive away and the e:HEV L is priced at $45,000 drive away.
Both variants use a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a CVT automatic transmission and are both front-wheel drive. The Vi X makes 89kW of power and 145Nm of torque and is rated at 5.8L/100km on a combined cycle. The e:HEV L makes 96kW of power and 253Nm of torque and is rated at 4.3L/100km. Both the petrol and hybrid variants feature a 40-litre fuel tank and can use 91RON regular unleaded fuel.
The 131kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that’s the sole option in the new generation Civic – despite featuring in the new HR-V in some markets – won’t be offered locally for now.
The 2022 Honda HR-V measures 4,335mm long, 1,790mm wide, 1,590mm tall and features a 2,610mm long wheelbase – 13mm shorter, 18mm wider, 15mm less tall and with an identical wheelbase to the last HR-V. Its boot measures 304-litres with the seats up – way less than the 437L old model – and up to 1,274L with the rear seats folded.
Standard equipment on the entry-level 2022 Honda HR-V Vi X includes 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, a 9.0-inch touchscreen with wired Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, satellite navigation, digital radio, single-zone climate control, four speakers, electric-folding mirrors, rear privacy glass, Honda’s ‘Magic Seats’ that allow the rear seats to fold up, hill descent control, keyless entry and start and an alarm.
Safety equipment includes six airbags, auto emergency braking (AEB) with forward collision warning, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control with low-speed stop and go functionality, auto high beam, traffic sign recognition, tyre pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.
The top-spec e:HEV L then adds auto wipers, LED front fog lights, half leather/cloth upholstery, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, rear USB ports, an electric tailgate with kick-to-open functionality, two extra speakers, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, intelligent speed limit assist, auto-dimming rear mirrors, heated and auto-folding exterior mirrors, cornering lights and an acoustic windscreen.
Five no-cost colours are available for the 2022 Honda HR-V: ‘Platinum White’, ‘Premium Opal’ (silver), ‘Crystal Black’, ‘Meteoroid Grey’ and ‘Premium Crystal Red’. The sole interior colour is black – cloth on the Vi X and half leather/cloth on the e:HEV L.
