GV70 vs. Envision: Sporty or Cushy Comfort
Genesis GV70
Brand new for this year, the 2022 Genesis GV70 is the smaller brother to the GV80. With the same engine choices, a 2.5-liter turbo 4-cylinder or a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, both connected to full-time all-wheel drive, it’s great fun to drive. Solid and compact, it’s plenty quick, and it loves curvy roads.
The GV70’s handsome looks are highlighted by a signature diamond-pattern grille on the outside, while the interior is beautiful and modern without being gimmicky. There are also plenty of options, including several matte hues and different interior color themes.
There’s plenty of space for average-size adults and decent cargo room as well, with 56.9 cubic feet of space with all seats folded. Standard features include heated front seats and a 12-way power-adjustable driver seat. Also standard are a slew of driver-assist features, including dynamic cruise control, front and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, and blind-spot collision avoidance assist.
Higher trims bring such things as a 360-degree camera system, leather seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
Buick Envision
With a number of SUVs in the Buick family, the 2022 Buick Envision falls between the Encore GX and the Enclave. Seating is for five, but the Envision is still probably best for four passengers.
Priced more like a mainstream compact crossover, the Envision feels more refined, like an entry-luxury model. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder makes a decent amount of power, but the delivery is smooth rather than sporty and the ride is tuned for quiet and comfort. Inside, the Envision has high-quality materials, with even the base trim’s cloth being soft and smooth.
Standard features include an 8-inch infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, and active noise cancellation. Every Envision also comes standard with the Buick Driver Confidence Plus safety suite, which includes lane-keeping assist, forward collision alert, lane-change alert with blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Upper trims get things like leather seats, a Bose premium audio system, a 360-degree camera, and a larger touchscreen. A Sport Touring package adds special wheels, badging, and grille, but does not include any performance improvements.
Similarities
Compact size; upscale interiors; base turbo 4-cylinder engines.
2022 Genesis GV70 Advantages
Base power; optional upgrade engine; long warranty; cargo space.
2022 Buick Envision Advantages
Lower base price; fuel economy; smooth ride.
Which One is Right for Me?
Sharing the engine choices of its big brother but in a smaller package, the 2022 Genesis GV70 is definitely the driver’s choice of these two. It’s well-appointed and luxurious, yet also sporty and fun. GV70 offers an engaging and entertaining experience for any driver.
The 2022 Buick Envision is all about comfort and quiet, providing a relaxing and enjoyable ride and smoothing out the bumps. The base engine is sufficiently powerful, but the Envision is about providing a luxury experience at a mainstream price.
