Cupra Australia has detailed the standard equipment and pricing of one of its three performance-focused launch models, the Ateca small SUV, which is due mid-year.
With the Hyundai Kona N and Volkswagen T-Roc R firmly in its sights, the Ateca is available in a single highly specified variant, dubbed VZx, priced from $60,990 before on-road costs.
It is pricier than the Hyundai which starts from $47,500, while the T-Roc R is yet to be priced but is expected to be in the circa-$60,000 bracket.
Motivated by a 221kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Cupra’s 4Drive all-wheel-drive system, the VZx can sprint from a standstill to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
Standard equipment includes variable-ratio steering, adaptive suspension, dusk-sensing LED lights, rains-sensing wipers and black/copper 19-inch Exclusive Sport alloy wheels (with a space-saver spare).
And then there’s auto-folding side mirrors with heating and dark-aluminium covers, puddle lights, black roof rails, keyless entry, rear privacy glass, a hands-free power tailgate and quad exhaust tailpipes.
Inside, keyless start, a 9.2-inch touchscreen multimedia system, satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a 340W Beats sound system with nine speakers, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a wireless smartphone charger feature.
Buyers also get a heated sports steering wheel, heated front sports seats (including driver power adjustment and memory functionality), three-zone climate control, Petrol Blue leather-appointed upholstery, ambient lighting, aluminium pedals and illuminated scuff plates.
Advanced driver-assist systems extend to autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep and steering assist, adaptive cruise control, high-beam assist, driver attention alert, blind-spot monitoring, park assist, surround-view cameras, front and rear parking sensors, safe exit alert and tyre pressure monitoring.
Options include Brembo brakes ($4050), an Akrapovic sports exhaust system ($5950) and a panoramic sunroof ($1800). Dark Camouflage is the only premium paintwork option ($475), with the Nevada White, Graphite Grey and Magic Black metallic colours all no-cost.
