The 2021 Hyundai i30 range is now on sale in Australia priced from $23,420 plus on-road costs, which is $2,980 more than the pre-updated model. According to Hyundai Australia, this is because of a much healthier standard equipment list, as well as new styling details and a revised model lineup. The i30 sedan replaces the former Elantra – though it’s still called Elantra in other markets and the facelifted i30 N will launch soon too.
“With range-standard SmartSenseTM safety, refreshed styling and extra equipment, our ever-popular i30 hatchback is now an even more compelling proposition in the small car segment,” Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Executive Officer, Jun Heo said.
“The stylish 2021 i30 hatchback complements the progressive all-new i30 Sedan as well as performance N Line variants to provide the perfect small car package for a wide variety of customers,” he said
The 2021 Hyundai i30 range is offered in five models: i30, Active, Elite, N-Line and N-Line Premium – the i30 is hatch-only, but the rest of the models are available in either hatch or sedan.
The 120kW/203Nm 2.0-litre petrol engine and 150kW/265Nm 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine carry over from the pre-updated hatch and Elantra, with a six-speed manual offered on both engines in some models, while a six-speed auto is offered on the 2.0L engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch auto on the 1.6L turbo.
The previously available 100kW/300Nm 1.6-litre turbo diesel engine on the hatch has been cut.
The sedan is an all-new design, and features more modern and crisper styling – the sedan and hatch also feature a completely different interior with new materials and new tech, including a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display.
Despite being unrelated in styling, all models of both the 2021 Hyundai i30 sedan and hatch range are well equipped, with 16-inch alloy wheels, a leather steering wheel, a 7.0-inch (hatch) or 8.0-inch (sedan) touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated/auto-folding mirrors (hatch), a reversing camera, rear parking sensors and rear air vents.
Safety kit is a big improvement on the 2020 models with low-speed auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, six airbags, lane keep assist, auto headlights with auto high beam, LED daytime running lights, lane follow assist and on automatic variants, adaptive cruise control.
Active models add leather upholstery, 17-inch alloys, one-touch windows and chrome exterior bits. The Active is the entry-level sedan.
The Elite adds auto headlights, dual-zone climate control, a larger 10.2-inch touchscreen with digital radio and satellite navigation, a premium sound system (Bose in the sedan and Infinity in the hatch), blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, keyless entry and start and remote start on the sedan.
The N-Line adds (to the Active) LED lighting, sports seats, independent rear suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, auto wipers, keyless entry and start, wireless phone charging, sporty exterior styling details,
The N-Line Premium adds a sunroof, a 10-way electrically-adjustable driver’s seat (with memory functionality in the sedan), heated and cooled front seats, a Bose (sedan) or Infinity (hatch) sound system, sun visor extensions and an auto-dimming rear view mirror.
