It’s been nearly 60 years since Honda produced its first car – the T360 mini pickup truck – and in that time, the brand has expanded its lineup to offer 10 models across the sedan, SUV, minivan, and truck segments. Here’s how TrueCar ranked the 10 best Honda models you can buy in 2022:

10. 2022 Honda HR-V

autos, cars, honda, car buying, car sales, 10 best honda cars, trucks & suvs according to truecar

2023 Honda HR-V | American Honda Motor Co., Inc

  • MSRP: $23,095

TrueCar calls the Honda HR-V a versatile and affordable compact crossover. By a slim margin, it’s also the cheapest Honda model on this list.

The 2022 Honda HR-V sees no changes from the 2021 model year. You get a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder engine with 141 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is optional for some trim levels, and you’ll get upwards of 30 mpg on the highway.

That powertrain is the primary issue reviewers find with the HR-V. The lack of power makes it hard to get up to speed quickly, and competitors like the Jeep Renegade and Subaru Crosstrek offer you more power, albeit at a higher cost. Overall, the HR-V is affordable, efficient, and provides plenty of cargo space and standard safety features.

9. 2022 Honda Ridgeline

  • MSRP: $38,865

The Honda Ridgeline is the brand’s sole entry into the truck market. The 2022 model is one year removed since its latest remodel introduced new features and a more rugged exterior.

Though it is smaller than popular pickups like the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado, the Ridgeline offers a lot. Its unibody platform makes the 17-foot truck feel more like a car when you’re behind the wheel. The quiet ride and excellent fuel economy add to that feeling.

Reviewers acknowledge that other trucks can give you better towing and off-road capabilities. However, the Honda Ridgeline is a great daily driver. Its 3.5-liter V6 engine gives you 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. The new pickup also boasts a towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds. For added convenience, the Ridgeline comes with a lockable in-bed trunk and a two-way tailgate.

If you’re shopping for a versatile new truck with comfortable seats, good storage, and solid technology, the Honda Ridgeline is a good option. Not to mention, TrueCar ranked it fifth on its list of the best midsize trucks.

8. 2021 Honda Clarity

  • MSRP: $34,415

The Honda Clarity is in its first generation and is the company’s run into alternative fuel vehicles. It comes in plug-in hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell options – though hydrogen fuel cell Clarity models will be discontinued.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain is a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine pushing out 212 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque with up to 47 miles of electric-only range. It sips on gas with an estimated 42 mpg combined fuel economy rating. Meanwhile, the hydrogen fuel cell’s electric motor gives you 360 miles of range with 174 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque.

TrueCar calls the Clarity surprisingly practical with unprecedented versatility. The ride is comfortable and quiet, and the standard safety technology Honda’s known for is standard. The rear seats do not provide a lot of legroom for taller adults but are still comfortable. In its list of the best plug-in hybrid cars on the market, TrueCar ranked the new Honda Clarity sixth overall and fourth for sedans.

7. 2022 Honda CR-V

  • MSRP: $38,805

The Honda CR-V is the brand’s best-selling vehicle and one of the most popular SUVs on the market. The 2022 model gives you five comfortable seats, a lot of cargo room, and Honda’s long list of safety features.

The turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine gives you 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque behind your right foot at more than 30 mpg on the highway. All-wheel drive is optional for all five trim levels, and there is also a hybrid option.

Reviewers note one drawback is the infotainment system, calling it dated and clumsy. Though reviewers say competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and Subaru Forester may offer you more fuel economy and off-roading capabilities, respectively, the CR-V brings all of it together with the best.

6. 2022 Honda Pilot

  • MSRP: $38,805

The Pilot is Honda’s largest SUV in production and offers three rows of seats. The 2022 Honda Pilot may be overdue for a redesign, but it still has plenty to offer drivers.

The 3.5-liter V6 engine provides 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft torque across all five trim levels. All-wheel drive is available across all three trims, and the eight seats do not feel cramped in the cabin, though the back row may be small for bigger adults.

One of the only drawbacks is the same as the CR-V: reviewers call the infotainment system clunky. However, with comfort, practicality, and a solid V6 under the hood, it’s not a surprise that more than 100,000 Pilot units were sold last year, per GoodCarBadCar data.

5. 2022 Honda Passport

  • MSRP: $39,095

The five-seater Honda Passport slots in the Honda lineup between the CR-V and the Pilot. The 2022 model shares a redesigned front end and back bumper, similar to the Ridgeline. It gets the same power from a 3.5-liter V6 engine as the Pilot. All-wheel drive is standard on two trims (Trailsport and Elite). This makes it one of the faster midsize crossovers but does mean a little less in fuel economy (19 city mpg, 24 highway mpg) than some competitors.

Like the Honda Pilot, reviewers note the expansive cargo space and a roomy cabin, making the Honda Passport a solid choice as a daily family hauler and vacation adventurer. And as in other Honda models, you’ll get the automaker’s full suite of safety features.

4. 2022 Honda Odyssey

  • MSRP: $34,265

The 2022 Honda Odyssey is in its second model year since the fifth generation of the minivan got a facelift. That facelift brought improved styling, more safety technology, and new headlights.

Facing stiff competition from the Toyota Sienna, Chrysler Pacifica, and the brand new Kia Carnival, TrueCar reviewers say the Odyssey retains core competencies. That includes seating for eight (except on the base trim), plenty of cargo space, and a smooth 3.5-liter V6 engine that gives you 282 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque.

However, the Odyssey does fall short among some of the top minivan models. There’s no all-wheel drive option, and the fuel economy (19 city mpg, 28 highway mpg) can’t match up with some of the hybrid powertrains in other models. Nor can it keep up with the tech and luxury in the Pacifica or Carnival.

3. 2022 Honda Insight

  • MSRP: $26,775

The Honda Insight first came to the U.S. market in 1999 and was one of the most fuel-efficient cars you could buy. It’s changed its looks over the years – including runs as a two-door and four-door hatchback – but keeps the same core idea: a small car with great fuel efficiency.

TrueCar acknowledges that the 2022 model is basically a hybrid Honda Civic. It’s more fun to drive than its competitors and gives you plenty of room inside for five passengers. The 1.5-liter hybrid engine provides 151 horsepower and 197 lb-ft of torque at an incredible 55 mpg in the city and 49 mpg on the highway. TrueCar ranked the Honda Insight fifth on its list of best hybrid sedans too.

2. 2022 Honda Accord

  • MSRP: $27,135

The flagship of Honda’s catalog, the Honda Accord, is currently in its 10th generation, which debuted in 2018. It’s available with three powertrains: a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine (providing 192 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque), a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder (252 horsepower and 293 lb-ft of torque for the Sport and Grand Touring trims), and a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder hybrid system (giving you 212 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque).

TrueCar says the new Honda Accord sedan appeals to a variety of drivers. It’s a comfortable family hauler, elegantly designed, and is a joy to drive. In a class with rivals like the Toyota Camry and Mazda6, reviewers say the Accord remains the benchmark. TrueCar ranked it second to the Hyundai Sonata in its list of the best midsize sedans on the market too.

1. 2022 Honda Civic

  • MSRP: $23,365

The Honda Civic first came to the market in the early 1970s and has since sold more than 18 million units worldwide. The 2022 model year sees a redesign for the sedan icon with new styling and enhanced technology.

There are three powertrain options for the Civic, all of which are turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engines. The baseline one in the LX and Sport trims gives you 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque; the upgraded one for the EX/EX-L and Touring/Sport Touring trims pushes out 180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque; the engine in the Si trim pushes those numbers to 200 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. Those powertrains all give you combined fuel economy figures of around 30 mpg.

TrueCar reviewers say it checks all of the boxes you’d want in a compact car. It excels in economy, reliability, comfort, and safety while being a fun-to-drive sedan. Of all sedans – regardless of size – TrueCar ranked, the Civic is third-best.
