Both SUVs have similar torque figures, but crucially, can EV power beat the might of a Diesel? Lets find out
Electric vehicles are said to be the future of mobility, especially in India thanks to the development of EV infrastructure, however, the question that ponders amongst auto enthusiasts is whether EVs have the potential to beat a diesel-powered vehicle.
To find out if EVs are truly powerful, here’s a drag race between a Tata Nexon EV and a Kia Seltos. Read on to find out which of them wins!
Kia Seltos V/s Tata Nexon EV
The definition of performance was once defined by the power and torque delivery of a diesel-powered vehicle. Diesel engines were deemed to be better in haulage duties, therefore, last-mile delivery services depended on them to transport commodities in the most reliable and efficient manner. However, with the introduction of electric mobility solutions, the entire industry got revolutionized.
Today, electric mobility is deemed to be the future of global commute and haulage. This identity of being a global means of mobility has been attached with EVs as they are sustainable means that are reliable and efficient. They contribute nothing to the growing global carbon footprint. Luxury and performance-focused automakers are now shifting to e-mobility as well, due to the said factors.
At this juncture, diesel car owners might find it a little cumbersome to digest the fact that EVs are better. Therefore, to prove and mostly for entertainment purposes, the YouTube channel Arun Panwar has decided to put a Tata Nexon EV to the test by placing it up against diesel-powered Kia Seltos in a Drag Race. Let’s see who claims victory!
Drag Race: Kia Seltos vs Tata Nexon EV
To prove that EVs are more powerful than diesel-powered cars, YouTube channel ’Arun Panwar’ presents a video of a drag race between a Tata Nexon EV and Kia Seltos
Power figures
Kia Seltos:
The vehicle comes powered by a 1.5L CRDi VGT engine that produces 113.43bhp of power at 4000rpm and 250Nm 1500-2750rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed AT.
Tata Nexon EV:
The Nexon EV is powered by a 3 Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that generates 127bhp of power and 245Nm of peak torque.
As mentioned above, the power figures seem somewhat similar or at least the torque figures seem to be close enough. Whatsoever, let us see which car wins the battle between these two cars.
Round 1
Round 1
The two drivers prep their cars for the drag race
Round one of the drag race begins with the two vehicles taking their positions. The Tata Nexon EV and the Kia Seltos gets thoroughly prepped for the drag race. The drivers make sure to switch off the Air Conditioning System for optimal performance. The driver of the Nexon EV switches the driving mode to sport mode for ultimate performance.
On the mark of three honks, the two vehicles take off from the starting line, however, the Kia Seltos gains an advantage over the Nexon EV initially
With the mark of three honks, the two vehicles take off from the starting line. Surprisingly, the Nexon EV initially started slow but as they drive down the drag strip, the EV presents better power delivery compared to the Seltos. The Kia could not keep up and lost ground to the Nexon. The Tata Nexon EV wins the first round of the drag race.
Round 2
Can the Seltos redeem itself in round two? Swipe up to find out.
Round 2 of the drag race began on a similar note. The drivers wanted to test out whether the EV really has the potential to beat the diesel-powered vehicle. Hence, they line up the two vehicles for another go. The Tata Nexon EV initially did not have the power to pull up ahead of the Kia Seltos but as they go down the drag strip, the Nexon EV gained momentum. The Seltos could not keep up with the power of the Nexon EV, thus, proving that EVs are better than diesel-powered vehicles. The Tata Nexon EV claims victory!
