Could Geely Philippines be adding a third model based on its BMA platform? After wowing the local market with the
Coolray
and
Emgrand
, they could stir up the compact sedan segment with this: the Binrui Cool.
The big news for Geely’s C-segment offering is that it shares the very same powertrain as the
revamped Coolray
. With that, it gets a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 181 horsepower and 235 Nm of torque driving the front wheels via a wet-type 7-speed dual clutch automatic. With those power outputs, it easily matches the just-launched 11th generation Civic. And get this, the price starts at just RMB 79,800 (P 658,200)!
At a glance, the Binrui Cool looks very close to the Emgrand down to elements such as the triple-dash LED DRLs. However, it does don a new design philosophy which Geely calls, “Racing Storm.” The Binrui Cool features yellow-painted brake calipers and black 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the Binrui Cool gets a dual digital gauge cluster with a 10.25-inch screen for the driver and a 12.3-inch serving as the interface for the infotainment system. The same minimalistic design found in the Coolray and Emgrand are also present here, but setting this sporty sedan apart would be its sport seats with suede and polyurethane material.
Granted the compact sedan or C-segment is now pretty much niche, the chances of seeing the Binrui Cool here are pretty slim. That said, if Geely Philippines wants to make a statement, they could certainly do it with this.
